Clamberjaw

"These jaws look like they could crush metal and bone alike."
Aloy, upon sighting a Clamberjaw

The Clamberjaw is an Acquisition Class machine in Horizon Forbidden West.

History

Clamberjaws Scavenging

The main purpose of the Clamberjaws is to salvage scrap. Two models of Clamberjaw were released: the Fire Clamberjaw and the Frost Clamberjaw.

While it's unknown when they were first released, Fire Clamberjaws can be found in the Lowlands of the Clan Lands, the Isle of Spires, and the central Burning Shores. The bodies of Frost Clamberjaws can be found on the island where Far Zenith established a base in the southwestern Forbidden West,[1] but no active ones can be found.

At the advent of the Derangement, almost all machines started becoming increasingly aggressive towards humans, including the Clamberjaws.

Horizon Forbidden West

Apex Clamberjaw

A new model of Clamberjaw, the Apex Clamberjaw, was released into the wilds alongside their regular counterpart sometime after Apex machines were first released from Repair-Bay TAU.[2]

Aloy and Garokkah found that a piece of the memorial for the fallen Jay Squad has been taken by some Clamberjaws, which they destroyed to retrieve the stolen piece.[3]

Clamberjaws were among the machines overridden by Regalla's rebels, which Aloy and Atekka fought while investing the Blood Choke not clearing up in Thornmarsh, and Aloy fought some more at the rebels' outpost in the Stand of the Sentinels.[4]

While Aloy was searching for Warend, she found his body without his key. Some Clamberjaws then came down from the cliff to attack her, which she managed to fight off. Climbing the cliff where the Clamberjaws came from, Aloy found Warend's key among their scrap pile.[5]

Aloy encountered Clamberjaws while infiltrating Cauldron CHI. When she overrode CHI's core, she gained access to the information needed to override Clamberjaws.[6]

After Aloy disabled the final Zenith lure in the Valley of the Fallen, a two Apex Clamberjaws and a Frostclaw attacked her and Ivvira, where they destroyed them.[7][8][note 1]

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores

When Walter Londra released some Corruptors from the Horus he was taking control of, they corrupted two Apex Clamberjaws, which Aloy and Seyka quickly destroyed.[9]

After Aloy returned to the Forbidden West after venturing through the Burning Shores, she found that the Arena had started offering fights against Clamberjaws, one known as 'Scrap Beasts' requiring hunters to destroy four Apex Clamberjaws and two Apex Bileguts in a single fight, the other known as 'Wildfire' requiring hunters to destroy four Apex Clamberjaws and two Apex Scorchers.

Appearance

The Clamberjaw is a small simian machine that resembles a tailed baboon. It possesses a mask-like component that is capable of covering its face. It has two small air sacs on the sides of its face. The body is covered with armor plating with claw-like hands and feet that allow it to hang onto trees. There is a storage canister on its chest and two Power Cells on its back. On its hind legs are two Blaze sacs, which it uses for defense. The machine has a long, slender tail with a spraying mechanism.

Behavior

While occasionally encountered on the Isle of Spires, the Clamberjaw is found primarily in the Tenakth Lowlands and across the Burning Shores. Clamberjaws gather in large packs.

Abilities

The Clamberjaw is fierce, fast and agile. It uses its claws and tail to salvage scrap from machine carcasses or scrap piles. It can cling to walls with ease and possesses a range of abilities that debilitate opponents, including throwing flaming scrap, concussive screeches, and using chemicals in their tails that prevent the consumption of items.

The mask that it uses to search for scraps grants it a degree of eye protection and immunity to the Confused status from smoke bombs. Without it, it can use its eye sensors to blind opponents.
