Yonaka Kurai is the main protagonist of the 2012 Indie Role-playing-game Mogeko Castle. She is assumed to be 17 or 18 years old. She is serious, kind, and accepting but has a dark side. Her only desire was for her brother to return and to go back home.
Personality
Yonaka constantly acts as a very serious but kind and accepting girl, as she was quick to accept cooperating with Defect Mogeko and help him escape from his cell, despite not being completely aware of the reasons concerning his imprisonment. However, like many of Deep-Sea Prisoner's characters, she also has shown to have a darker side, during the events of Mogeko Castle, she occasionally demonstrates a more darker side of her, and during some parts of the game, she has the option to kill several Mogekos or generally act cruelly to them with no reasoning or justification, even with the Seven Special Mogekos, who are just trying to help her. It is also noted that she has a very close relationship with her brother, as she likes him in a uncomfortable amount, this love can go from sisterly love to even get to the point of being romantically incestous.
Appearance
Yonaka has fair skin, black eyes with white pupils, and black hair with braided pigtails. Her bangs cover her right eye.
She wears a typical Japanese high school uniform, consisting of a white dress shirt, a red plaid ribbon, a gray blazer with two brown buttons, a red plaid pleated skirt, dark gray tights, and black loafers.
Biography
The Nightmare Begins
While Yonaka was riding the train she usually takes to get home, because it would take her awhile to get to her destination she decides to take a nap for some time. However Yonaka oversleeps and wakes up after what is implied to be hours, she gets off of the Mysterious train, and finds herself in a strange station she has never saw before.
Yonaka decides to explore this new place in hope of finding something or someone that can help her get back home, as she keeps walking, after several minutes of walking she finds herself lost in a forest, unfortunately for Yonaka a Mogeko appears behind her, she confused thinks it's just a plushie, however that creature starts talking, something that leaves Yonaka dumbfounded. The Mogeko soon enough calls more of his species and they sorround Yonaka with the intent to assault her, she screams in panic and runs away from them. Yonaka successfully flees from the Mogekos and takes a moment to take a little break and think of what is happening right now, she comes to the conclusion that is all a dream and continues on her way, she finds a weird looking castle that she decides to enter to search something that can make her go home.
Floor I
After Yonaka goes inside the castle, she takes a moment to take a look around it, but much to her surprise the main door locks itself and she's now locked in the castle. Suddenly a group of Mogekos sorround her and get close to her with the intent to assault her, but during this process, The Mogekos get in a argument between eachother about who has to be "Yonaka's first time", Yonaka takes this opportunity to flee from the scene while they are all distracted arguing and she gets into another room of the castle.
Yonaka keeps exploring the other rooms of the Castle to find a way to escape from the Mogekos, but much to her mistfortune, she doesn't manage to find something useful. After she walks into the east storage room of the dinning hall, she hears a nearby Mogeko approaching the room where she's in currently, Yonaka quickly behind one of the boxes close to the door of the room to avoid getting seen by The Mogeko. She succesfully avoids that Mogeko after the latter left the room to go for the Meal Time.
Yonaka enters another room, and this one is The Dark Passage which is completely filled with darkness and crazed Mogekos that constantly try to get close to her but are unable to do it for some reason, after exiting the Dark Passage of The Castle, Yonaka ends up in a room very similar to the first room of the Castle, however the path to the upstairs is blocked by 4 Mogekos, a strange and unknown voice calls Yonaka and tells her to go the room of the left, she decides to get in there and inside of it she meets a Somewhat Strange Mogeko, Somewhat Strange Mogeko tells Yonaka about how to exit the castle, and in order to do so, she must go through 7 floors and get to the door that will take her to her world, he also gives her a special knife for self-defense that will help her in killing Mogekos with one stab. After Yonaka obstains the knife and exits a Somewhat Strange Mogeko's room, she uses the knife to kill the 4 Mogekos blocking her way and goes upstairs to take the left room in the south, Yonaka finds a strange Mogeko in it but it doesn't attack her, but this quickly changes as he calls other 2 Mogekos as they try to chase her, but Yonaka is faster and manages to escape to the second floor.
Floor II
After arriving to the second floor of the castle, Yonaka explores a large red road that appears to be some kind of garden, wondering if she's still even indoors, she wanders the room until she encounters a Mogeko in it, he asks her about what bread can you not eat, after Yonaka answers the question, The Mogeko leaves the Red Road to go to sleep on his room.
As Yonaka goes to the next door, she walks through some kind of maze in which she encounters multiple friendly Mogekos and some crazed Mogekos that are trapped between the other side of the hallway, she keeps walking until she finds a room with 2 statues and one of those strange Mogeko paintings, when suddenly the painting comes out of the portrait and Yonaka scared, decides to run away, she runs around another long maze as she is chased by The Mogekos. Yonaka manages to escape the group of Mogekos after getting inside another room in the maze, she passes through the other door and gets inside another section of the castle. In The Flutterby Realm, the floor is made out of clouds and the Mogekos residing it are in their larvae forms, Yonaka walks and explores this new section until she finds the room of the Prosciutto Fairy another weird Mogeko that helps her to find a way home by giving her the directions to the third floor and a strange key. With this information Yonaka gets out of the section of The Prosciutto Fairy and walks down through a long hallway before going inside another door that leads her to room that has stairs that take directly to the Third floor, Yonaka quickly takes a ladder and goes up to the third floor before the Mogekos reach her.
Floor III
As Yonaka takes the ladders to the third floor, she finds herself in a hallway that contains 6 different doors that take her to their respective rooms, Yonaka takes her time to explore this rooms until she enters in the 6th door of the hallway, in this room there are multiple books of "indecent nature", Yonaka however takes a big ans thick book and starts reading it, the book it's about the hunting of strange or "defect" Mogekos, but unfortunately her reading gets interrupted when the group of Mogekos sorround her again, and now being in a Dead End, Yonaka is captured by The Mogekos and left in a cell meanwhile they have a reunion of who's going to be Yonaka's first time.
Much to her luck, another person was in the cell, a chained strange green Mogeko, she talks to him for awhile regarding some of the reason of his imprisonment, Yonaka nicknames the weird Mogeko "Defect Mogeko" and thus, after their talk Defect Mogeko notices Yonaka's key, and asks her to give it to him, she quickly accepts it and Defect Mogeko is finally able to unlock the chains of his left leg and is now free, with his newfound freedom, Defect Mogeko decides to join Yonaka in of finding her way back home, Yonaka now with Defect Mogeko as her ally, they walk through another hallway that contains a cell with multiple crazed Mogekos locked in, Yonaka and Defect Mogeko get past that section and now enter another special section of the Castle, this one being The Blood Realm, which is completely red and having weird looking structures and surfaces that have the shape of a heart and multiple tubes, this structures transport them to the left and right of the room, using this structures Yonaka and Defect Mogeko get to the room of the Special Mogeko of the floor, Blood Spirit helps Yonaka by making his Blood Servant send her directly to the next floor.
Floor IV
Yonaka and Defect Mogeko are teleported to the fourth floor, they arrive in the first room after The Blood Servant had died while teleporting them, Yonaka and Defect Mogeko get out of the first room and they start heading to the next floor as soon as possible, they walk through a hallway that contains 6 different doors that lead to the rooms of different Mogekos, all of this Mogekos are completely sad and depressed as Yonaka describes. The duo walk through the first east hallway filled with dozens of corpses of Mogekos and the second East Hallway.
Both of them get into a long hallway, Yonaka uses this opportunity to speak and ask Defect Mogeko questions about the reason of why the Mogekos in this floor were all so depressed. Defect Mogeko explains how this floor was ruled by Moge-ko, and this was why all The Mogekos in this floor are all so full of fear, since Moge-ko took over the floor and became it's new ruler, thanks to her tyranny, Moge-Ko also demanded an elevator that goes straight to the fifth floor, and so it would be much easier and faster for Yonaka to get back home. While this chat took place, Moge-ko noticed their presence, and started watching them all the time until they arrive to the elevator.
Yonaka and Defect continue their way to the elevator by walking through The Mogemoge Land a bleak area with many weird energetic Mogekos, eventually they get to the door that leads them to the path to the execution room, once they get through the door of the Execution hallway, they finally arrive to their destination. Unfortunately, their path is blocked by Moge-ko and another group of Mogekos, Moge-ko and her minions began chasing Yonaka for several hours until Yonaka amd Defect Mogeko finally manage to lost them. Yonaka along with Defect Mogeko began to walk to the Hall Of Sorrow, which would allow them to get inside Moge-ko's room, in this room there was a bedroom that contained a secret passage to the next floor, they succesfully find the secret passage and finally arrive to the fifth floor.
Floor V
Yonaka and Defect Mogeko arrive to the next floor and find themselves in a big room containing 3 doors and an east hallway with other 2 doors, Yonaka takes the fifth door by suggestion of Defect Mogeko, the duo arrives in a hospital located inside this floor, Defect Mogeko tells Yonaka that they have to get in there and find the weapons room due to a terrible and scary monster wandering in this very floor, to do that they have to take an elevator to go the last floor of the Hospital', however a "gross bug" is blocking the button to the fourth floor, this makes Yonaka and Defect go through all the floors in hope in finding something to kill it, hopefully for them, after wandering the third floor, Yonaka finds an insecticide and uses it to kill the gross bug, after killing the bug, Yonaka and Defect finally arrive at the last floor and briefly explore it before finding the weapons armor, Defect Mogeko finds a rocket launcher and stuffes it in his inventory.
After obtaining for what they were looking for, Yonaka and Defect Mogeko exit the hospital and get inside the fourth door of the first room, this leads them to a long hallway in which Defect Mogeko explains to Yonaka the history of the castle and it's creation. Once a lonely individual created a kingdom for himself and became the ruler of it, The King also made seven special Mogekos for each floor, unfortunately for them Moge-ko was waiting for them in another room, and so she releases the caged monster to kill both of them, Defect Mogeko tries to kill the monster by using the rocket launcher, but Moge-ko creates a forcefield around them, preventing it to harm the monster, seeing their only hope of killing that monster was now destroyed, Yonaka and Defect start running for their lives. After running away from it for a good time, they finally escape by entering a door that leads them to the Fluffy World, the residence of the fifth guardian Moffuru and also the home of the Mofukos, Mogekos infected with the Blancfluff parasite that die within a month. With the guidance of Moffuru, Yonaka and Defect Mogeko walk through The Fluff Path, a place where the souls of dead Mofuko become stars, which fall on the land and can be seen in the sky. At the end of this path they find Lord Prosciutto's light, which can be used to ascend to the sixth floor, and so Yonaka and Defect use it to go up to the next floor.
Floor VI
Yonaka and Defect Mogeko teleport right to the next floor, appearing in the first room of the floor, which contains 2 statues and dead Mogekos, after both of them get past the doors of the room and a long hallway, Yonaka along with Defect Mogeko walk through some stairs that lead them to the next room, and the last one that comes before the library, they walk into staircases before getting inside the door leading to the library, much to their surprise, they instead find the throne room, which is the location of King mogeko, Defect Mogeko quickly gets out his rocket launcher he got from earlier and shoots it at the king which apparently kills him or knocks him out for some time.
As they escape from the throne room, Yonaka and Defect are now in a place called the Unknown Realm which has 2 rooms, the last one being extremely similar to the Blood Realm of the second floor, after exiting the Unknown Realm, Yonaka and Defect Mogeko arrive in a room that is extremely similar to the first room of floor I, with the difference of having an illusion of somekind of Moge-ko and a dead Mogeko. Yonaka and Defect Mogeko enter the door of the right and walk into a bloody path that leads into the outdoors of somekind of building, after getting inside said building, Defect Mogeko realizes it's the library, which was located else where thanks to the guardian of the floor. Yonaka and Defect go to the right room and walk straight into the hallway until they reach a dead end, in which Defect Mogeko manages to find the secret passage and make the secret door appear, taking them to the Chicken Coop, a realm that it's floor is made out of clouds and contains multiples shelving books along with chicken/chick statues, after going through the door to the next room, Yonaka and Defect Mogeko meet the sixth guardian, Mogecuckoo.
He tries to help them by teleporting them with the egg, but this fails ultimately because the warp was interrupted by mogeko, with no more time to waste, Yonaka and Defect leave the room and wander through the maze of the cell rooms while being chased by multiple Mogekos, eventually the king finds both of them amd shoots Defect Mogeko right in his chest, Defect Mogeko uses a tear gas to paralize long enough for him to get Yonaka to a safe room while he leaves her to deal with the Mogekos by himself. Defect Mogeko easily kills all the Mogekos that were chasing Yonaka in one second with his Katana, but now he had to face his greatest enemy, mogeko. As the 2 engage in a battle of katanas, it seemed at first like Nega Mogeko won the battle by piercing through the king's chest, but as he was unable to pull the sword out, soon enough the truth was revealed, mogeko was still alive, and he defeats Nega Mogeko and proceeds to capture him crucify and burn him to death, in which he succeeds, all of this while Yonaka was still watching, despite being heartbroken, Yonaka sees Defect Mogeko one last time before saying goodbye to him, and leaving the room in which he left her in to walk into a long hallway before taking the staircases that would get her to the seventh and final floor.
Floor VII
Yonaka after a long travel finally arrives at the seventh floor, which contains the door that will get her to her world, as Yonaka walks into an area that is extremely similar to the entrance of the castle, she finds the door and opens it, after doing so. Yonaka wakes up in the bus she always take back home, wondering if everything was all just a dream, she takes a look on her hand and becomes shocked by knowing it has a blood in it, meaning everything was real, but with no time to think more about it, the bus arrives at it's destination and Yonaka finds herself in a street, she begins walking through the streets until she finds her house, as she goes inside the door and then enters the living room, she finally meets her brother, Shinya Kurai, however she's confronted by him while holding a knife and having chunks of meat and blood behind him, all of this which are their parents remains, Yonaka is shocked to know this, but as Shinya attemps to kill her, she finally reacts and runs away from home while being chased by her brother, she manages to take the bus and get away from him, but as she starts to rethink the situation, she decides to go back, so she tells the driver to stop, but much was her surprise to know the driver was a Mogeko all along, and so ends up in Mogeko Castle again.
Yonaka is now in another section of the castle, the Mogeko Kingdom a place with a red sky and a resemblance to the streets of Yonaka's world, Yonaka now walks through the streets while watching multiple of the most important memories and moments she lived in the castle, eventually she meets the king again, but with no time to waste, she injures him and get's past him to walk through the final section of the streets, as she does this the red sky is turned now into a night sky, she takes the doors and finds herself inside the castle again, Yonaka is now in a small room with a long ladder, as she takes it to go up and walk into the next door, she's now in a location that is similar to the Prison halls, as she wanders through the long Prison hallway to the next room, she's now in a place she has never seen before, a long hallway with a night sky, at the end there are 2 statues and Mogekos along with a really big and long door, which is the Door of Truth, and depending if she killed one of the special Mogekos or not, she can take 2 paths to lead to different endings, this paths being On The Path Of Paradise and On The Path Of Falsehood.
Endings
Normal End
If you have killed one of the seven special Mogekos and chose the Path Of Paradise, Yonaka will go through the door and find herself at home again, she walks into the living room to find her brother Shinya again. Bit this time she has weapon, which she uses to stab Shinya, Yonaka is shocked at what she has done and asks her brother why he didn't dodge, however Shinya is unable to respond and eventually succumbs to his wounds. Yonaka is ashamed of herself for killing her own brother and is then is confronted by the seven special Mogekos she met along the way. Yonaka walks up to each of the special Mogekos and is told what each of them did to help her, she then has the option to let the blood cross guide her, and she allows it. Back at the castle, Moge-ko is in a furious rage because she wants to "play" with Yonaka, the King is telling her that she got away which angers Moge-ko and she decides to use him instead as a "toy" which lets him terrified. Yonaka goes back to the castle and approaches from behind them, noticing her presence the King tells Moge-ko that Yonaka is back, and so Moge-ko starts speaking to Yonaka of what would she prefer for torture, but Yonaka doesn't answer and instead sprays Moge-ko with huffspray, knocking her out. Yonaka then approaches the king and claims that she will kill him, she tells him that she has a grip strength of 70. The King screams in pain as Yonaka rips him to pieces, killing him. As the Mogekos are shocked about their leader's death but Yonaka then puts on the now dead King's scalp and claims the castle for her own and calls it "Yonaka Castle." While doing this, Lord Prosciutto possess Yonaka, which claims she "forgives the sin of All Mogeko" and peace comes all over the land.
True End
If Yonaka does not kill any Special Mogekos, she will be given the option of proceeding through the Path of Falsehood, triggering the true ending. The Door of Truth returns Yonaka home, and once again, she is confronted by Shinya. This time, she doesn't run from him, instead deciding to stay with him. Yonaka walks close to her brother and draws her knife, stabbing him. She becomes distraught, having expected him to dodge her attack. Shinya finally comes back to his real self and the two exchange their last words, reconciling their issues between them before Shinya finally dies by his wounds. Yonaka with a peaceful look and a smile now claims she is now "truly happy." But as the credits end, it is revealed the shocking truth, The Mogeko in the beginning of the game, who had been reading to someone in bed, is revealed to be King mogeko. It is also revealed the person in bed is Yonaka, implied to have attempted suicide by swallowing pills. She is unresponsive to any of King Mogeko's provocations, lying in bed in a comatose state as King mogeko claims he will play with her forever.
Bad Endings
Bad End 0 "Everlasting Dream"
To get this ending you have to pick the option "Give up, find another way" doing so will the trigger this ending.
Yonaka decides to not go inside the castle as it is too suspicious and "too good to be true", but as she turns around to leave and find another way, a large group of Mogekos sorround her, and as one approaches her, the screen goes black and all the Mogekos rape Yonaka as blood is splattered all over the screen.
Bad End 1 "Assimilation"
If you chose to interact with one of the Mad Mogeko's in The Dark Passage, you'll get the option to release it's madness, doing so will result in Yonaka becoming one with the darkness of the castle.
Bad End 2 "Insects"
In order to get this ending, during your time in the Flutterby Realm, you have to enter the door located in the Prosciutto Fairy's room, doing it will give you a warning, if you chose to go inside anyways, Yonaka finds herself in a room full of Mogeko Larvae's, all of them swarm into Yonaka's body due to finding her as perfect enviroment to hatch and grow new eggs, this causes Yonaka's death.
Bad End 3 "Meat Party"
After you free Defect Mogeko from his chains and go the room with the Mad Mogekos, you have to go the button which opens the cage and press it, if you have try to do it you will the option to refuse or proceed, if you chose to proceed, Yonaka presses the button, opening the cage and realising all the Mad Mogekos. They all start eating and tearing apart Yonaka's flesh as a gruesome, bloody cutscene is shown, Defect Mogeko isn't seen during this ending but it is certain he might have died too.
Bad End 4 "Toy"
If you ignore Hasu's warning moments before his ascend and chose to leave Moge-ko's room through the way you came in, this will cause Yonaka and Defect Mogeko to be caught by Moge-ko. Moge-ko at first will crucify both of them in her torture him, but due to Defect Mogeko not stoping talking, he instead is killed by Moge-ko quickly, and instead of being killed like Defect Mogeko, she becomes Moge-ko's toy and is tortured from that point onwards until she dies.
Bad End 5 "Parasite"
If want to get this ending. In the Fluffy World you have to go to the fourth room and interact with the Blancfluff Mogeparasite, this causes the parasite to attack her and maker her unwillingly swallow it, infecting and turning her into a Mofuko, the same as others.
Bad End? 6 "Elopement" (Prosciutto Love Affair ~Vows on Sunset Hill~)
To get this ending, before going inside the Library, talk to Defect Mogeko and select the option "Never mind that, let us elope!". This will trigger this ending. Yonaka tells Defect Mogeko she wants to elop with him, she says she doesn't care about her brother anymore and now cares about Defect Mogeko instead. They succesfully escape the castle and years later after escaping the castle, Yonaka and Defect Mogeko are seen watching the sunset. Defect Mogeko asks Yonaka if she wants to stay with him and she says yes. The screen then cut scenes of Yonaka, Defect Mogeko, and the picture of both of them looking at eachother in the sunset.
Bad End 7 "Ficticious Truth"
To obtain this ending, you must beat the game normally until you get back at Yonaka's world, after you enter her house and find her brother Shinya, you have to get caught by him, doing so will result in a cutscene of Shinya stabbing Yonaka, resulting in her death.
Trivia
- She has a grip strength of 70.
- It's unclear whether her relationship with Shinya and her love for him are brotherly or romantic, but considering that her "first romance" was him, it implies the latter.
- She is in her second year of high school.
- She is set to appear in General Hashasky's Great Adventure. She met one of the Hashasky in Mogeko Castle, She could be the main antagonist when Moge-kov enters the castle
- Her relations with Nataka Kurokawa and Imika Yuhjima are unknown, despite her seeing them in the train but not interacting with the two.
