Biography

Chapter 1

At the start of chapter 1, Noelle askes her and Kris' teacher if they can do their group project with three people (due to already doing the project with Berdly), but everyone is interrupted when Susie enters the classroom. The teacher pairs Kris with Susie and decides to write the assignment, but notices that there isn't any chalk. Noelle mentions that there might be some in the supply closet, and offers to go with Susie to get some. But Kris ends up going with Susie and eventually enters the dark world instead.

After Kris leaves the dark world, Noelle can be found visiting her father in the hospital, discussing a video game and asking how to confess her feelings for someone. As she is about to leave, Noelle notices that Kris has been overhearing their conversation. She can be found near a large gate afterwards, trying to get home.

Chapter 2

Kris and Susie attempt to enter the dark world again, but are interrupted by Noelle, who asks if they want to come study with her and Berdly in the computer lab. However, they refuse and she leaves. Kris and Susie enter the dark world, but are later forced back into the light world by Ralsei to do the group project. Sometime during this, Noelle and Berdly would be brought into another dark world in the computer lab where Queen attempts to use them as pawns to aid in her plans for world domination. Noelle seemingly rejected this and ran from Queen, as she can be found near the beginning of the Cyber Field when Kris and Susie arrive there. Noelle tries to get them to leave, but is quickly captured by one of Queen's cages.

Later on, Noelle is shown to have been successfully made a peon of Queen, who summons her to get rid of the heroes. But all Noelle does is make awkward small talk with Susie, which prompts Queen to summon Berdly instead, knocking Noelle down into the city below in the process. Kris eventually finds Noelle hiding in the city from Queen, and they make a truce. Kris and a disguised Noelle eventually come across Queen again, who tells them to get in her car to get away from Berdly. During their car ride, Queen reveals that she genuinely cares about Noelle.

Kris and Noelle come across a puzzle soon afterwards. While they navigate their way through it, Noelle talks about how new all of this is to her, and reminisces on her childhood memories with Kris, Asriel, and her sister Dess. Afterwards, Kris and Noelle come across Susie and Ralsei (who had decided to explore without Kris earlier). Susie becomes angry at Noelle, before learning from Kris that they made a truce. The four of them continue to explore the dark world, before coming across Queen's mansion. Kris, Susie, and Noelle are kidnapped and put into personalized cells, while Ralsei is made into a butler.

While trying to escape Queen's mansion, Susie and Berdly take a secret entrance to Noelle's cell. As Noelle is about to be attacked by monsters, Susie attacks them and saves Noelle. Noelle asks Susie where they are, causing her slight shock. Susie decides to make Noelle believe that she is dreaming, which she believes. The two end up escaping by getting on a nearby Ferris wheel, where they have a conversation. When they get off, Noelle wishes all her dreams could be this wonderful. Susie attempts to say something, but is interrupted by Berdly. Susie leaves to join Kris and Ralsei, leaving Noelle and Berdly. Berdly apologizes to Noelle for taking her for granted, and revealing that he might now have feeling for Susie, sending Noelle into a rage. Somewhere during or after this, both of them are captured by Queen once again.

When the heroes make it to the top of Queen's mansion, she reveals that she has captured Noelle and is planning to use her to open more dark fountains. Susie attacks Queen, sending her falling and freeing Noelle, who warns them to leave again. Queen suddenly appears in a giant robot and sends Kris, Susie, and Ralsei falling. Before they can fall, Berdly and all the allies the heroes made combine their powers to help defeat Queen. However, it isn't enough, and Queen manages to destroy their mech. Queen arises, holding the three of them and threatens to kill them if Noelle doesn't create a dark fountain. However, Noelle finally gathers the courage to stand up to Queen, who tells her to choose the world that makes her happy before powering down. Noelle ponders if they truly should leave the dark world, and Susie and Berdly agree, causing the latter to attempt to create a dark fountain. However, he is stopped by Ralsei, who explains if he does so, he will bring The Roaring, an event that is said to bring destruction to the world. This tale shocks everyone, and they decide to abandon their old plan.

When Kris seals the fountain and brings everyone back to the light world, Noelle comments on how it truly was a dream, causing Berdly to also believe so. Before Noelle leaves the computer lab, she takes a glance at Susie, causing her to get yelled at before finally leaving.

Noelle can be found in her father's hospital room again, playing a video game. As she gets up to leave, Noelle notices that Kris and Susie are there. Noelle's father reveals that Noelle has been telling him about Susie, causing Noelle to quickly leave.

Snowgrave route

Alternatively, when Kris and Noelle team up in the city, the player can choose to make Noelle use ice magic-based attacks on enemies, initiating the Snowgrave route.

Kris and Noelle come across a salesman that mistakes them for a couple and offers to sell them "Dating shoes", Noelle informs the salesman that she and Kris are just friends, Noelle wonders if that's a proper description though, due to how close they really are. Kris says that they are "something else", to the confusion and minor shock of Noelle. As they go to leave, the salesman offers to sell them a "FreezeRing" instead. Noelle claims that they don't need something like that, but gives in when informed that it will make her stronger. The FreezeRing costs too much, but Kris continues to attempt to buy the ring. Noelle protests that they don't have enough money, but they end up obtaining it anyways. A confused Noelle assumes that the salesman just gave them the ring, and notes that getting stronger is a good thing. Oddly, the salesman has disappeared.

After coming across and freezing more enemies, Kris and Noelle come across a puzzle. Kris tells Noelle to simply "proceed", and approaches, prompting Noelle to back away in confusion. Kris continues approaching Noelle, leading to the latter nearing a lighting barrier. Noelle tries to get them to stop, but Kris continues to tell Noelle to "proceed". Noelle freezes the puzzle, presumably turning off the barrier in the process.

The two come across another puzzle, Noelle goes down to try and solve it herself. Noelle comments on how she is doing many great things "herself", but ponders her previous actions, noting that Kris is telling her to do things. Noelle freezes this puzzle, and the two move on.

After killing enough enemies to cause someone in a dumpster to give Noelle a "ring of thorns", the two come across Berdly, who quickly notices that something isn't right. Noelle asks Kris if she should freeze the enemy, before realizing that it is Berdly. Kris simply says "proceed" once more upon Berdly attempting to learn what they and Noelle have been doing, leading to him attacking Kris, despite Noelle's warnings. Once Kris gets enough TP from grazing Berdly's attacks, they tell Noelle to use "Snowgrave" on Berdly. Noelle refuses at first, saying that she doesn't know that spell. But after being ordered again and again to cast Snowgrave, Noelle gives in and uses the fatal spell. A weakened Noelle makes her way back to Queen's mansion, leaving behind Kris and a completely frozen Berdly.

Kris reunites with Susie and Ralsei at the front of Queen's mansion, finding out that it has been taken over. When they reach the top of the mansion, they come across Queen, who comments on Noelle's weakness and Berdly's disappearance. The heroes then approach Queen, who offers to let Kris and Susie join in her plans. However, Ralsei informs Queen of The Roaring, prompting her to abandon her plans. Afterwords, Kris seals the dark fountain by themselves.

When everyone returns to the light world, Noelle comments on how it truly was a dream, before noticing that Berdly isn't moving. Believing that Berdly is asleep, Noelle grabs their books and leaves.

Noelle can be found in her father's hospital room again, playing a video game. Noelle's father notices strange behaviors from his daughter, such as using ice attacks on an ice-themed boss, and being unwilling to hand the game over. Though, Noelle says that everything is fine. As she gets up to leave, Noelle notices that Kris and Susie are there. Noelle's father reveals that Noelle has been telling him about Susie, causing Noelle to quickly leave. When Kris leaves the room, they overhear a disturbed Noelle still under the belief that everything that happened in the dark world was just a dream, but comments on how real it all felt. Noelle then reminisces on a strange voice that told her what to do, and ponders on the strange recent behaviors of Kris. Noelle eventually notices Kris has been there through her whole monologue, before noticing that their voice was strange, possibly like the previously mentioned voice. Before Kris can say anything else, Susie rejoins them, and Noelle leaves the hospital.

Trivia

  • She is the first heroic Deltarune character to genuinely kill another character (albeit only in the Snowgrave route).
  • She, along with Berdly, is a Lightner who is unaware that the dark world exists, only thinking it's a dream.
    • However, if you take her watch in the Snowgrave route, it is presumed that she realizes it wasn't just a dream, and was indeed real.
  • Noelle and her father, Rudolph "Rudy" Holiday, are the only Deltarune characters who did not first appear in Undertale to have a known last name. That said, it was shown through the Xbox part and the unused alarm clock dialogue that the Holiday family does exist in the Undertale universe, with Noelle and Dess living in Snowdin, but with Rudy dead.
  • When wearing the Ring of Thorns in the Snowgrave route, Noelle's HP will always drop to a third of her HP, being 55. As 55 in Latin can be written as LV, which means "Level of Violence" in Undertale, this is representative of the violent route Noelle is being forced on by the player.
