Napstablook is a supporting character in the well known indie title Undertale, created by Toby Fox. Serving as a minor antagonist in the Ruins, and a supporting character in both the Waterfall and Hotland segments of the game.
They are a ghost living in the Underground, shown to be rather anxious and perhaps a little depressed, it is revealed later in the game's Neutral/Pacifist Routes that they are the cousin of Mettaton, growing to miss his pressence ever since he went off with Alphys to become a star.
Appearance
Napstablook takes on the appearance of a white ghost with black eyes and white irises, they are also shown sporting a pair of headphones on occasion, and as seen in their fight, is able to create a hat out of their own tears that they call "Dapperblook".
Personality
Napstablook is shown to be shy, introverted, and insecure. Generally trying to stay out of people's way, when the player character first encounters them in the Ruins, they are pretending to sleep in order to get them to go away, when that doesn't work, they end up initiating a fight where it is made abundantly clear that they aren't in the mood for a fight.
Aside from that, Napstablook is almost shown to have an enjoyment for music, having several tracks stored in their house and ending the True Pacifist Route as Mettaton's DJ. They are shown to deeply miss their cousin, Mettaton, as seen by them calling him at the end of his fight and lamenting how much they miss him, before promptly hanging up.
Biography
Neutral Route
You first encounter Napstablook early on in the Ruins not too long after parting with Toriel. Found lying on a bed of leaves, Napstablook pretends to sleep in hopes of getting the player character to go away, when the player attempts to push them out of the way, a fight begins. From there Napstablook will use tear-based attacks while making it rather clear that they weren't in the mood for this.
From here, based on the choice you make, you can appeal to Napstablook's good side by flattering them enough into showing you a trick where they make a hat out of their own tears. From there, the fight will come to a close, Napstablook getting out of your way.
Attempting to fight Napstablook and getting them to lose their health bar will lead them to revealing that they were only decreasing their health to make you feel better, before ultimately leaving out of fear that they ruined the mood.
Napstablook can be found later in the Ruins having fallen down one of the traps, before quickly remembering that they were a ghost and fading away.
Napstablook makes their second appearance in Waterfall where they accidentally save you from the wrath of the Mad Dummy, where upon doing so, they quickly leave back to their house. Choosing to go visit them, Napstablook shows you some of their records, attempting to offer you a snack in the form of a ghost sandwich, which ends up falling through your fingers. You can also choose to lay on the floor with them and feel like nothing.
Going into the area across from their home, you are able to compete in Snail Racing setup by Napstablook for 4 Gold. Winning this race will net you the reward of 4 gold.
Napstablook makes their final major appearance in Hotland, where during the fight with Mettaton, when his ratings are at an all time high, Napstablook calls, stating how he really enjoyed Mettaton's show, before lamenting how much they miss him and want to see him again. It is this piece of dialogue that hints at/confirms that the two are related in some way. Unfortunately, Mettaton doesn't get the time to properly respond, as Napstablook quickly hangs up the phone.
True Pacifist Route
In the epilogue of the True Pacifist Route, Napstablook and Mettaton are seen hanging out at Napstablook's home, Napstablook silently looking to their cousin with admiration. In the credits, they are seen performing on stage alongside Mettaton, Shyren, and Burgerpants.
Genocide Route
Napstablook is only seen briefly at the beginning of the Genocide Route, where if the player kills every monster before encountering them, they will promptly disappear the moment you enter their room. From there on they don't make a single appearance throughout the rest of the game.
