Murfy, also spelt as Murphy, is a major character in the Rayman series. He is a Greenbottle who provides information for Rayman and his friends on their adventures.
Biography
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Murfy first meets Rayman after he is freed from a cage in The Woods of Light. He will appear at moments during the game in order to instruct Rayman on how to perform abilities and use items. He can also remind Rayman of information through Stones of Thought.
Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
During the Hoodlums' invasion of the Glade of Dreams, Murfy is chased through a forest by the Hoodlum leader Andre until he finds Rayman and Globox to warn them about the danger. Globox is the first to wake up and runs off to hide with Rayman's hands while Murfy manages to fly Rayman to safety. He then helps Rayman look for Globox while reading the game's manual to instruct the limbless hero on his abilities and using Combo Mode.
After they reunite with Globox, Murfy assists in trying to stop Andre from reaching the Heart of the World and soon attempts to wrestle Andre's gun away so Rayman can launch his fists at him. They eventually get to the Heart of the World where they learn Globox has swallowed Andre and Murfy warns Rayman that the Black Lum might provoke Globox's allergy to Plum Juice before wishing them farewell.
Rayman: Hoodlum's Revenge
Murfy reappears again to help Rayman by reading the game's manual to teach him how to use his abilities.
Rayman Origins
Murfy meets the heroes after they are attacked by nightmares and tells them to gather Electoons in order to help the unhinged Bubble Dreamer and their world. He will inform the heroes how many Electoons they need to proceed through the game and will show up if they lose a few times during a level, suggesting to come back to it later.
Rayman Legends
Murfy plays a more active role in this game. He is sent by the Bubble Dreamer to wake up the Glade's heroes so they can save their world once again. Murfy helps out by moving, cutting, or even biting through obstacles in the hero's path, and can tickle enemies to drop their defences. Murfy's actions are either done by the player via touch screen or automatically.
Spin Offs
Rayman Arena
Murfy appears as JM Murphy, a "Special Reporter" who reporters on a number of characters between matches while in their dressing rooms, much to their annoyance. During each cutscene he appears in, JM Murphy is beaten up by those he has reported on.
Handheld Games
Murfy provides Rayman with information about his abilities and the environments in the Game Boy Advance versions of Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc and Rayman Raving Rabbids. In the iOS games Rayman Adventures and Rayman Mini, Murfy appears representing a cursor if the device is connected to Apple TV.
