He was portrayed by Henry Ian Cusick, who also portrayed Desmond Hume in Lost.
Description
Kane was a member of the Council on the Ark and acted as Chancellor Jaha's right-hand man. He was initially a very strict enforcer on the laws then, but, on the ground, he realized that things were not at all like in space and learned to let others rule and to care more for those close to him such as Abby and Jaha.
History
In season one, Kane's ruthless side is very present: he takes part in the exile of a hundred teenagers on Earth, does not hesitate to float Doctor Griffin or even want to become chancellor by all means. His attitude changes upon the death of his mother and a betrayal by Diana Sydney. He is one of the Arkers who descend to Earth but acts as if he is still the leader.
In season two, Kane passes the role of Chancellor of Camp Jaha to Abby as he attempts to establish peace with the Grounders. Later, he is captured by them and locked in prison with Jaha, who also came to Earth after being alone on the Ark. He then discusses the conditions of peace with Lexa, leader of Trikru and follows the advices of Clarke, friend of the grounder. Towards the end of the season, he is one of the captives of the Mountain Men and sees Abby being tortured. Luckily, Clarke irradiates all levels of Mount Weather and Sky People is freed and go back to Camp Jaha.
In season three, Kane is part of the group that finds Charles Pike, former resident and teacher of l'Ark, as well as Hannah, Monty's mother. He also obtains a mark on the handle made with an iron to signify that his people are part of the coalition of the thirteen clans. An election then takes place and Kane loses against Pike who becomes Chancellor of Arkadia. However, the latter, hateful towards the Grounders, wants to start a battle against them and Kane participates in a revolt against Pike. He has this one captured and takes him to Polis, only to find that everyone is being chipped by Jaha. Kane is then tortured by Abby and crucified before reluctantly accepting the key. After a fight against the resistance of A.L.I.E., Clarke destroys the AI and Kane is freed from her control.
In season four, Kane tries somehow to manage the conflicts between the thirteen clans. Because of Praimfaya, a second nuclear apocalypse announced by A.L.I.E., the Sky People take refuge in a bunker found by Jaha. However, Octavia decides to bring in members of the other twelve clans, which causes Jaha to want to fight but Kane prevents him from doing so. Together, they decide to gas the population and decide who will stay and who will die.
In season five, Octavia has seized power in the bunker and sets up bloody fights in which Kane participates to protect Abby who should have fought. When prisoners from Eligius IV land on Earth, Kane meets Paxton McCreary and Charmaine Diyoza, their leaders. He watches over Abby, abducted to treat the prisoners. While Vinson, one of them giving the pills to Abby confronts Kane, he begins a fight with him and fatally wounds him in the stomach and neck. Abby then intervenes and kills Vinson before taking Kane to Gagarin and then to Eligius IV.
In season six, Abby attempts to heal Kane and arranges several blood donations to wake him up, with success. As he wakes up, he's confronted by Octavia who blames him for betraying them with Diyoza and Kane responds by saying that she made them lose so many people by burning the hydrofarm. Angry, he coughs up blood and Abby cryogenizes him to save him. She comes up with the idea of transferring her mind into a chip and using the body of a Sanctum citizen as a host. When he wakes up, Kane is shocked and unhappy to live in someone else's body. Deciding to end this life, Kane is floated by Indra, as the tearful Abby and Raven watch.
