“ | There it is. That’s the Twilight who won my heart. The Twilight I can’t stop chasing. The Twilight I want at my side. The Twilight who turned my respect into love. The Twilight whose dreams became my dreams. What I’m saying is… I love you. | „ |
~ Fiona Frost |
Fiona Frost, better known as Nightfall, is a major character of the Spy × Family franchise.
She is a spy working for WISE. and a former student of Twilight. She is always aiming to win his love, even finding a rivalry to his wife, Yor Forger.
She was voiced by Ayane Sakura (Japanese), Lindsay Seidel (English), and Bryn Apprill (English; episode 21).
Background
Nightfall's past life prior to becoming a spy is unknown. She was originally a student of Twilight, who taught her to remain stone-faced for the rest of her life, ensuring that emotions won't cloud her judgment as a spy. As time goes on, she starts developing feelings for Loid. While Nightfall intended to work with Twilight for Operation: Strix, she was unable to do so due to an ongoing operation, thus she is forced to work with Twilight at the Berlint General Hospital.
Appearance
Fiona is a woman of average height with a pale skin. She has a white-colored bob cut hairstyle which has a fringe covering part of her right face. Her attire consists of a blue trench coat with a turtleneck and black pants underneath. Her footwear is a pair of leather heel boots. She's described by Yor and other characters as being very attractive. As Nafalia Foney, she wears a standard tennis uniform and a blonde wig of long hair, tied back into a ponytail by a pink ribbon.
In Spy × Family: CODE WHITE, Fiona dows a purple dress and gloves and a white coat in her shoulders.
Personality
Fiona Frost presents herself as a cold, expressionless woman, befitting her name. She is deeply in love to Twilight, her mentor to the point she wanted to replace Yor Forger as his wife, believing herself to be a more capable wife, due to the latter's inferior skills in some basic household chores. This relationship formed while working with Twilight which developed for a long time working with him.
While seeming devoid of emotion, Fiona is actually deeply passionate; her admiration for Twilight made her strictly adhere to his teaching to the point that she essentially never conveys her feelings (at least, honestly), even in secure locations, rather allowing them to bubble chaotically within her head. Despite her controlled exterior, her passion can overflow to make her display random muscle spasms or even literal jumps for joy, until she can regain composure. Often, Twilight will do something noble, show concern for her well-being, or compliment her, which provokes her love to become stronger, which manifests as an intense look in her eyes, but is misinterpreted by him as agitation. Although, when alone, Fiona's emotions tend to burst out, especially if they are frustration or despair.
Despite the cold shell, if Twilight is insulted, Fiona becomes enraged, with her enacting brutal violence against the offender until she feels her love is satisfactorily "avenged." Similarly, if he is attacked, she loses focus on anything else, and solely commits to protecting him or destroying the enemy. During tennis, she broke her idiosyncratic soft-spoken manner to scream in fury during her hits; but since it was during tennis, her roars weren't seen as particularly unusual.
Fiona is like Twilight in that she wishes to maintain peace between the East and West, out of understanding that war would only cause pain, rather than amend the balance of power, therefore is dedicated to doing anything to uphold peace. Unlike Twilight, however, Fiona has another motivation beyond peace, as she has a goal once the operation is complete, which is to actually marry him; she tries to replace Yor as "practice," though she internally confesses that even a false marriage with Twilight would make her happy and fulfilled. Though, ironically due to his training, Fiona's outer emotions merely make her attempts to be the Forger wife appear as ambition for her career, instead of the real reason of love.
Unlike Yor, Fiona has no tolerance for Anya's below average intellect and underachievement in school; she finds the girl's ineptitude as not just a detriment to Operation Strix, but also an insult to Twilight, which is what aggravates her the most. Fiona has no desire to be a mother in the Forger family, rather planning to be an educational drill sergeant to strictly train higher grades out of Anya, merely to aid Twilight's mission and reputation, not out of concern for the girl's future.
Trivia
- It is still unknown whether or not Fiona Frost is her real name or just an alias.
- Her codename "Nightfall" is a reference to how she's always going after Twilight.
- Her tennis name, "Nafalia", is derived from her code-name, with her surname, "Foney", being a pun on the word "phony".
- Due to her obsession with Loid, many fans have pointed out some parallels between her and Yor's brother, Yuri Briar, as, much like Fiona, he also yearns for Loid and Yor's separation, due to jealousy (although in Yuri's case, it's not romantic, but rather affectionate).
- Fiona's first appearance in the original release of chapter 29 featured her with a slightly different design. This was changed in the release of Volume 5, in which her current and final design was added in this scene.
- Fiona Frost serves as an antithesis to Yor Forger in different ways:
- Fiona has a shorter white hair and bluish eyes while Yor has a long black hair and reddish eyes.
- While Yor boasts excellent physical strength which she demonstrates when challenged by Fiona in a tennis match, Fiona has lower physical strength, even lower than Loid's; although Yor struggles to regulate her strength, whereas Fiona has mastered hers.
- Fiona is cold and aloof while Yor has a warm and gentle personality (at least when not as an assassin).
- She has excellent skills in both tennis and her job as a spy while Yor has troubles in becoming a housewife, as much as to Fiona's dismay.
- Yor loves Anya, accepting her flaws and willing to gently help her improve, while Fiona has no feelings for Anya beyond annoyance, since the girl's poor school skills reflect poorly on Twilight, and as such, Fiona, if given the chance, will harshly train Anya. Yor has maternal kindness for Anya, whereas Fiona has no intention to be kind to the girl.
- The chair she's sitting on in the cover of Volume 5 is a Heart Cone Chair designed by Verner Panton.
- Her Japanese voice actress, Ayane Sakura, also voiced Ochaco Uraraka and Reiko Yanagiin My Hero Academia, Gabi Braun in Attack on Titan, Yae Miko in Genshin Impact, Itsuki, Nino and Ichika Nakanoin The Quintessential Quintuplets, Sakura Yae in Honkai Impact 3rd, Misty in Pokémon Masters EX, Neesha in Pokémon the First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution, Shimakaze, Nagato, Sendai, Mutsu and Kuma in Kantai Collection, Secre Swallowtail in Black Clover, Julia in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Nils in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, Gasper Vladi in Highschool DxD, Mika Shimotsuki in Psycho-Pass, Ms. Chalice in the Japanese dub of The Cuphead Show!, Ran Mitake in BanG Dream, Moa in Show By Rock!!, Saiko Yonebayashi in Tokyo Ghoul, Ren Saionji in MF Ghost, Linne in Under Night In-Birth, Hayato Hayasugi in Shinkalion, Rinne Ibara in Pretty Rhythm Rainbow Live, Thief Arthur in Kairisei Million Arthur and Cocoa Hoto in Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?.
