The red blood cell designated AE3803, better known simply as Red Blood Cell, is one of the two main protagonists (alongside U-1146) of the 2015 Japanese biological comedy series Cells at Work! and its 2018 anime adaptation of the same name.
AE3803 was one of countless red blood cells responsible for transporting oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nutrients all across the body of the human she resided in. Relatively new to her job, Red Blood Cell would often get lost and was very unfamiliar with the blood vessels that she was tasked with ferrying her workload around in.
In the anime adaptation, Red Blood Cell is voiced by Kana Hanazawa in the Japanese version and by Cherami Leigh in the English version. Hanazawa's other heroic roles include Mitsuri Kanroji in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Mayuri Shiina in Steins;Gate, and Shiemi Moriyama in Blue Exorcist. Leigh's other heroic roles include Lucy Heartfilia in Fairy Tail, Sarada Uchiha in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Asuna Yuuki in Sword Art Online, Makoto Niijima in Persona 5, Sailor Venus in Sailor Moon, Patricia Thompson in Soul Eater, and Cagalli Yula Athha in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
