Vibe

"Letters or vibes to the Editor should be sent only "by owl post" and with a clear mind to The Daily Prophet."
— Notice on the Daily Prophet[src]

A vibe was a method of wizarding communication, seemingly done as a form of telepathy.

History

Barnabas Cuffe, the editor of the Daily Prophet, accepted vibes as a viable means of communicating with him in addition to owl post, advising that those who choose such a method do so with a clear mind.[1] The witch or wizard who ran the Daily Prophet horoscope allowed readers to send them vibes for a private consultation.[2]

Behind the scenes

  • Given that it requires a clear mind to work properly, sending vibes appears to be related to Occlumency and Legilimency, and thus may use a similar process.
  • Vibes can hence be seen as something of a reverse-Legilimency, since rather than penetrating the minds of someone else to get insight into their thoughts, feelings or memories, you are effectively projecting your own thoughts, feelings and memories over to someone else.
