Pyra was a phoenix who lived in the Scottish mountains.[1]
Biography
Pyra was born some time before the 1986–1987 school year, although she had presumably been alive for quite a while by then, as she was described by Garrick Ollivander as being old during that school year. She mostly spent her time in her nest in the Scottish mountains. The location of Pyra's nest was well known to Ollivander, as he was a friend of hers, who sometimes used her feathers to make cores for his wands.[1]
During the 1986–1987 school year, Penny Haywood needed a phoenix feather to complete her custom wand, so Ollivander told her the location of Pyra's nest in the Scottish mountains, saying that Penny would have to go to the mountains and bring Pyra back to Ollivanders before Pyra might gift a feather. Penny agreed, even though she was wandless, and managed to convince Pyra to come back with her. However, when they were approaching Diagon Alley, Pyra was spooked by some Dark wizards and flew off towards King's Cross Station. Penny followed her there, but lost the trail and called in Jacob's sibling for help. The pair searched the station until a station master informed them that a giant red parrot had flown across the station, but disappeared between platforms nine and ten.[1]
Jacob's sibling and Penny found Pyra in Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, hiding behind some luggage. Pyra was initially scared of Jacob's sibling, but once Penny explained that they were a friend, she let them escort her to Ollivanders. Whilst in Ollivanders, Pyra conversed with Ollivander, and was willing to gift a feather, but asked Jacob's sibling to describe Penny to her before she gave one. Jacob's sibling did, and Pyra was suitably impressed, gifting a feather. She stayed with Ollivander whilst Penny Haywood's second wand was being made and watched as Penny tried it for the first time. After the pair left the shop, Pyra flew back to her nest.[1]
