The Drilling Device is a technology introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.

Technical Overview

An engineering device designed for breaking up asteroids and comets. The Meteor Breaker contains a huge drill that tunnels into the target object and then automatically detonates an explosive at the appropriate depth, thus breaking the object apart from the inside.

History

In October, C.E. 73, a group of rogue ZAFT pilots maneuvered the wreckage of Junius Seven to crash onto Earth.^[1] To prevent this, the Joule Team deployed several Meteor Breakers to break up the colony's wreckage.^[2]
