EMI

“We could do so much better than this.”
This article is a stub. You can help the Gorillaz Wiki by expanding it and adding more information wherever fitting.

EMI Group Limited (originally an initialism for Electric and Musical Industries, also referred to as EMI Records Ltd. or simply EMI) was a British transnational conglomerate founded in March 1931 in London. At the time of its break-up in 2012, it was the fourth largest business group and record label conglomerate in the music industry, and was one of the "Big Four" record companies (now the "Big Three"). Its labels included EMI Records, Parlophone, Virgin Records and Capitol Records, which are now owned by other companies.

Involvement in Gorillaz

EMI was the record label responsible for publishing Gorillaz's records in certain countries from 2001 to 2011, such as Canada, France and Malaysia.

During the siege of Plastic Beach, Murdoc escaped the island with Cyborg Noodle in the Doncamatic Submarine. On his way to England, Murdoc was captured by the Battleship Ringo owned by the EMI, the now-defunct former publisher of Gorillaz' music. EMI threw Murdoc in "Dungeon Abbey", a secret prison beneath Abbey Road Studios. Eventually the Entertainment Internal Affairs representative released the bassist under the condition that he was to immediately begin work on a new Gorillaz record, leading him to reunite with the rest of the band members, which had all been separated after the attack, and record the band's fifth studio album, Humanz.
