Description
In God of War series
Past
Some time ago, perhaps before the events of God of War, the god Týr traveled to various places in the East, such as Japan, Persia, China, India and some Arab countries. His reasons for traveling to these places are unknown, most likely for knowledge and diplomacy, but at the end of his journey he gained knowledge of the gods of the East, their traditions and their cultures, and also took with him various treasures.
God of War (2005)
When we are shown the past of Kratos, more specifically in the invasion of the Barbarians, Gaia mentions that they come from the East, however they do not specify which land of the East the Barbarians come from.
God of War: Chains of Olympus
In this game, the city of Attica is invaded by the Persians, a land from the East, also where the Basilisk and the Efreet originate, although Persia is possibly part of the Greek World.
God of War (DC/Wildstorm comic series)
The God of War comic introduce the Rocs, other creatures from the East, more specifically from Persia.
God of War: Ascension
Like the previous times, in God of War: Ascension, more creatures from the East appear, such as the Manticores and Juggernaut from Persia, though the latter seems to be of Arab/Islamic origin. The Coliseum of Persia is also a featured map in the multiplayer.
God of War (2018)
In this game, there are more references or mentions to Eastern lands, more specifically to Ancient Japan, such as a drawing on a wall of the Temple of Týr, a stone with the kanji of kami (god) and a tomoe in the lost triptych of the panel of Týr.[1]
God of War Ragnarök
As in the previous game, there are more mentions of lands of the East. Japan, being referenced by the kanji for the Mask of Creation, India with a Kila (a Buddhist protective dagger) being part of the lost tributes to Freyr,[2] Týr practicing yoga and tai chi at the end of the game, and the Arabian lands being indirectly mentioned through the presence of the Janbiya as part of the Stolen Treasures.[3]
God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla
During the last meeting with Týr, he takes out a Katana, a weapon from Japan, and uses a foreign magic technique which allows him to create a false copy of himself.
Trivia
- Although it is mentioned that the Barbarians are from the East, it has not been confirmed what specific land they are from. Possibly, they come from an Asian country or are Scythians.
