If I Were a Boy by Beyoncé is featured in The End of Twerk, the fifth episode of Season Five. It is sung by Unique.
Unique is getting bullied for using the Boys' Restroom at McKinley and has trouble facing her struggles. After being harassed by a bunch of boys, she sings If I Were a Boy as she stands against the corner of the bathroom, scared and sad. In The Choir Room, she sings the song to the New Directions as they listen to the pain in her voice. As she sings, she continues to cry. She sobs as she finishes her performance. The New Directions Boys feel her pain and one by one, they get up to ask Unique for names and to say they need to get their ass kicked, but Will and Unique know that it isn't the solution. She says that she loves them and their support but instead of fixing the problem, it would only make it worse.

- This is Unique's first solo as a member of New Directions, since Joy to the World was exclusively on the third Christmas album and wasn't used in an episode.
