Shuhua (슈화), also known as Yeh Shu Hua (葉舒華), is a Taiwanese singer under CUBE Entertainment. She is the vocalist, visual and maknae of the South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE.
Early life
Shuhua was born on January 6, 2000, in Yangmei, Taoyuan, Taiwan as the second of three daughters.[1] Shuhua's native language is Taiwanese Mandarin, and she acknowledges not being fully fluent in Hakka Taiwanese. Additionally, she is proficient in Korean and has a good command of both English and Japanese languages. She attended Hwa Kang Arts School with a focus on theatre.[2] She gained an interest in K-pop after being inspired by Hyuna.[3]
Career
Pre-debut
In her youth, captivated by actors on TV, she dreamt of becoming a celebrity, expressing her aspirations with determination. In May 2016, Shuhua was recruited by Cube Entertainment during the Cube Star World Audition.[4] Despite concerns about relocating to a foreign country at a young age, she resolved to pursue her dreams, fearing potential regrets if she did not take the chance. The most challenging of her trainee days was grappling with the language barrier and striving to comprehend Korean.
In June 2017, Shuhua participated in a promotional video for Rising Star Cosmetics along with Yuqi and Minnie.[5]
In September 2017, she and Yoo Seonho acted in 10cm's "Pet" music video.[6]
2018–2019: Debut with (G)I-DLE
After being a trainee for two years, She debuted with (G)I-dle on May 2, 2018, with I am.[7]
She won the bronze medal for rhythmic gymnastics at the 16th Idol Star Athletics Championships in 2019.[8]
2020: Cover, Variety shows
In December 2020, she joined the 2020 KBS Song Festival Maknae Special Stage, delivering a performance of Apink's "I Don't Know" alongside Itzy's Yuna, Iz*One's Wonyoung, and Oh My Girl's Arin.[9]
Later in December 2020, Shuhua participated in an episode of the South Korean program Paik Farther Don't Stop The Food! along with bandmate Yuqi in which each of the contestants have a cooking competition.[10]
2023-2024: Workdol, MLB Seoul Series, GQ Global Creativity Awards and Renewal contract
She was selected as the host for the web entertainment show Workdol in 2023.[11]
She went on temporary hiatus on February 8, 2024, due to health issues,[12] but she returned on March 21, 2024, for the MLB Seoul Series performance.[13]
She was selected for the May edition of GQ Taiwan's GQ Global Creativity Awards.[14]
On November 30 during the MMA Awards, Soyeon said that all of the contestants have renewed their contracts. On December 2, Cube Entertainment officially announces the renewal of all (G)I-DLE members' contracts.[15]

Artistry
Vocal
She is officially a sub-vocalist in (G)I-DLE. At the beginning of debut, her Korean pronunciation was poor and her vocal volume was the least among the members. In LION she received a similar amount of parts as the other members. And in Oh my god, there are quite a few scenes. It is also an opportunity to publicize Shuhua's unique vocals, which had been hidden due to the lack of parts.
Shuhua's vocals always create a new and mysterious atmosphere. Shuhua's voice, which has been shown in her music releases and performances so far, as well as various cover stages, has bright high notes and dreamy mid notes. She demonstrates a complex range of voices and creates a new atmosphere and charm by appropriately selecting and displaying them in each activity.[16]
Dance
During Oh my god, his dancing skills improved significantly to the point since debut that many fans said that he "danced well", not just "his skills improved". The members mentioned that Shuhua was the last one to leave the rehearsal hall. She said herself that right before her debut, she felt very insecure due to her lack of skills, so she stayed alone in her rehearsal room until late at night to continue her dance practice.[17]

When she joined Cube, she was so beautiful that it was rumored that a really pretty girl had joined her. She had innocent yet elegant features and an oriental vibe.
The skin is white and very nice. People who saw Shuhua in person said, 'It was like flour. ', 'It was like drawing paper. 'There are many comments about the skin. Celebrities with fair skin like Shuhua usually wear toned-down makeup to prevent their features from being blown out by the lighting on stage. Also, she often goes around with a bare face, and there are quite a few cases where she just appears with a bare face in official videos and entertainment shows. Moreover, her bare face is so pretty that it is not much different from her face with makeup.
Among the many members of (G)I-dle who have urban and glamorous impressions , she has one of the few pure faces and has an elegant and oriental beauty. Although she has a gentle impression, her expressionless face also secretly has a cold and cool vibe. Because of this, she can pull off the girl crush concept very well when she wears colored contact lenses or changes her makeup.
