Lute Zaxophone (リュート・ザクソフォン Ryūto Zakusofon ) is a character that appears in the Game Boy Advance Game Fullmetal Alchemist: Sonata of Memories.
History

Lute is the son of an Alchemist called Dalt Daimler. Years ago, while acting as a State Alchemist, his lover, Lila Amore, was grievously injured. Lacking the medical expertise to save her, he compensated for her injuries by transforming her into a Chimera. As punishment he was stripped of his license by the military and went into hiding with Lila as his servant Chimera. Lute eventually started the Liberare terrorist organization, bombing military buildings and attacking military personnel with his Chimera forces. During that time, Lute masqueraded as an alchemist-detective working in the town of Reglotaria to avoid suspicion.
He eventually worked with Lincor's plot to destroy Central with an army of Chimeras before Lincor died in battle with Edward Elric and his party. After failing to pin the blame for his crimes on fellow former State Alchemist Claves Fagott, Lute shows up and reveals that he is actually the one responsible for the both crimes. He explains he wanted use Lincors' bioalchemy and Ed's talent to revive Lila but failed as the party defeated him. Lute attempts to attack the party and kill Viola as a witness to his crimes, but the Lila-Chimera is killed in the crossfire, pleading for the party to stop Lute's plans before dying.
After revealing his past activities, Lute reveals his present motives of resurrecting Lila by using the Philosopher's Stone he procured by sacrificing souls from the bombing incidents. The party tries to persuade Lute to follow Lila's intentions but in vain, having to defeat the obstinate Lute who transforms himself into a monstrous creature with the Philosopher's Stone. Dying from his injuries, Viola conveys Lila's final words which soothe Lute and enable him to die peacefully.
Abilities
Lute possessed enough ability as an Alchemist to earn a State Certification. He performed Chimera Alchemy with human beings, for which he lost his State Certification. He claims to have designed the Chimeras involved in Lincor's plot and created the one which kept his love interest Lila alive. More recently, he has been shown to battle using playing cards imbued with Alchemy.
Using a Philosopher's Stone, Lute was able to use his knowledge to transform himself into a giant Chimera monster.
Trivia
- Lute's name is derived from two instruments: the Lute, a stringed guitar-like instrument, and the Saxophone, a member of the horn family. His alchemy teacher, Claves Fagott, follows a similar naming scheme.
