Preface

"Preface" is the opening track from FKA twigs's debut studio album, LP1. It was released on August 6, 2014 through Young. It was written by FKA Twigs and produced by FKA Twigs.

Background

The opening track of FKA Twigs' LP1 album starts with Twigs quoting from the English 16th century poet Sir Thomas Wyatt's "I Find No Peace." She told Pitchfolk that the "I love another, and thus I hate myself" line is the only constant throughout the album. "It's called LP1, but, for me, that quote is the subtitle," Twigs explained, "you could apply that line to anything in my life for the past two years."

The "I love another, and thus I hate myself" line is also inscribed into the vinyl of LP1.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I, I, I, I, I, I, I
I love another, and thus I hate myself
I love another, and thus I hate myself
I love another, and thus I hate myself
I love another, and thus I hate myself
I love another, and thus I hate myself
And thus I hate myself

[Interlude: Lucki]
Shit I got from around the corner just keep you keep calling back like
Shit I got from around the corner just keep you keep calling back like
Shit I got from around the corner just keep you keep calling back like

[Verse 2]
I love another, and thus I hate myself
I love another, and thus I hate myself
I love another, and thus I hate myself
I hate myself, I hate myself, I hate myself
I love another, and thus I hate myself
I hate myself, I hate myself, I hate myself
I hate myself, I hate myself, I hate myself
I hate myself
