Carcolf visits Shevs smoke house and offers her to go with her to Westport on a new job. Shev really wants to, but knows that Carcolf cannot be trusted and is only offering her the opportunity because of her skills as a thief and would likely get rid of Shev once she doesn't need her. Shev has strong feelings for Carcolf and has a huge sexual desire for her but knows better than to leave herself be guided by that.
Later she is threatened by Crandall, son of a Westport crime lord, into stealing something for him. When she can't deliver the object Crandall tries to kill her. She is saved by Javre who kills Crandall and his goons. During the fight Shev's smoke house burns down. Having been complicit in the killing of Crandall, Javre and Shev decide to flee Westport.

Two’s Company - 576 (summer)
On a journey through the North Shev and Javre meet Whirrun of Bligh on a narrow bridge. After some introductions, Javre and Whirrun decide to fight to see who is going to let the other one pass. Shev tells them that she doesn't mind if they kill each other, but if they fight on the bridge, they are likely to kill her too. They go back to Whirrun's side to fight but are interrupted by some of Bethod's men who are hunting Whirrun. Javre and Shev help Whirrun kill all of Bethod's men except for Flood. Shev cleans herself from the wet and bloody clothes. Javre and Whirrun, being attracted to each others’ fighting prowess, noisily have sex behind a nearby boulder. They are again interrupted when three warrior priestesses, Golyin, Ahum and Sarabin Shin, from Thond arrive to kill Javre. Whirrun helps Javre kill them. Shev complains about the cold, the wet and the fact that she hates to fight but seems to not be able to stop fighting wherever she goes. The three of them decide to team up for the time being to deal with their various opponents.

After working for Shylo Vitari and Monza Murcatto, Shev gets a document from Crandall's father Horald as a reward on the day of Jappo's coronation. A note left in the flat tells her that Carcolf has been taken by Horald and that he wants to talk to Shev. Shev enlists the help of her friend Javre with whom she had a falling out. They manage to fight their way to Carcolf only to find her in good shape and in conversation with Horald. It turns out that Horald wasn't interested in Shev and only wanted Shev to come because he knew that she would bring Javre with her. The whole thing was a setup planned by Javre's mother. She gives Javre the choice to either return with her to Thond or to retrieve an artifact for them.
After she returns to her flat, Shev finds out that Carcolf had worked together with Horald to settle a debt. Massively disappointed, she leaves Carcolf.
