Dr. Krieger

Carrier is the second level of Far Cry. It takes place in an old Japanese naval carrier from the World War II era that ran aground.

Overview

When Jack entered the hole in the side of the carrier, one of the mercenaries atop the deck threw a grenade in the water. The explosion caused parts of the structure to collapse, shutting off Jack. Doyle advises him to get to the upper deck where a boat could be found. Along the way, he is supposed to search for any trace of Valerie Constantine who is thought to be held captive on the ship.

In one of the cabins on the upper deck, Jack discovers Valerie's camera and a file about Dr. Krieger. A tablet plays a news footage in which Krieger explains that the islands are isolated from international shipping lanes, which makes it a perfect place for his research. Before entering the cabin, Jack overheard a radio conversation between Crowe and a mercenary and learned that Valerie is being transported to a location called The Bunker. Doyle claims he knows that place and tells him to get a boat so he can meet him.

The last objective the player has to accomplish is to find a boat. There is an inflatable boat hung by chains on the eastern side of the carrier. The boat lands in the water when the chains are shot off. In order to procure that boat, the player can either go up on the roof or go back and jump overboard into the water and shoot off the chains from a piece of land between the two broken parts of the ship. The former option is more dangerous since it requires the player to engage in an intense gunfight with the enemies, including a helicopter, from four sides. If the latter option is chosen, the player will only encounter the helicopter.

When Jack finally enters the boat, he heads for the east towards the island of Cabatu.

Objectives

  • Find Valerie if possible

  • Drive the boat east

Map description

The wrecked Akagi carrier consists of four decks, which are counted from top to bottom; thus, the upper deck is numbered the first. The player starts in a basement connected to deck 4 by a flooded shaft. Since the hole in the side of the ship through which Jack entered is blocked off by debris, the only way to go is to swim down the horizontal shaft and then up the ladder. The player emerges through a gap in the floor of a corridor.

DECK 4

The fourth deck has no exit to the outside. It is staffed by 7 Covers, 2 Scouts, and 1 Worker.

DECK 3

The third deck, which is the main deck, leads to the outside through a ruptured wall on the port side. At the bow there is a Minigun manned by a Rear Guard aiming aft, towards the player. Moreover, the player has to watch out for 3 mercs observing the main deck from above. The player walks an arc to get to the other side of the ship and climbs the ladder onto deck 2.

The indoor area has a radio room where a Scout is contacting Crowe and Valerie's belongings are kept. The very last room, leading to the flight deck, has 2 Covers standing behind flipped tables.

UPPER DECK / FLIGHT DECK

The area which the player can skip altogether, it has the most numerous crew. The upper deck is the most vital part of the ship since the mercenaries use it as a refueling station for helicopters. The northern side is guarded by 4 Rear Guards (two of which are usually killed by the player from deck 3). The western side has a platform with crates and a Cover operating a Minigun. The southern side is guarded by 8 Scouts.

Here the ship is connected to the other half by hanging wooden platforms. They will collapse if their chains are broken. The inflatable boat which Jack is looking for is located on the southeastern side across the wide gap.
