Sophia is a scribe of the Brotherhood of Steel and personal assistant of the head scribe Vree,[1] found at Lost Hills in Fallout.
Background
An instructor for Brotherhood initiates[2] and aide to Head Scribe Vree,[1] though she and Vree do not necessarily see eye to eye. Vree is a technocrat, while Sophia specializes in the softer science of history.[3] She believes that Vree's pursuit of technical knowledge and focus of researching weapons and mutant autopsies, at the expense of history, is a self-destructive direction: In Sophia's view, history is a vital part of our lives and focusing on technology at its expense destroys the soul of the Brotherhood. As Initiate instructor, she sees the problem first hand: Many new initiates don't even know who Roger Maxson was or what he did.[4]
She also looks after the library, where the Brotherhood records technical data on weapons and technology, as well as the historyh of the order.[5] Much to her chagrin, most visitors are only interested in weapon design and technology (topics restricted for scribes and paladins), while hardly anyone shows an interest in historical information, even though it's available with no restrictions. This frustration leads to her making passive aggressive jabs at Vree whenever the opportunity arises, though she doesn't ignore her duties otherwise.[6]

Other interactions
- She complains that many other scribes, such as Vree, do not care enough about history, and about how some initiates do not even know about Roger Maxson, the founder of the Brotherhood.
- If the player shows interest, she will give them a holodisk containing some of the earliest writings about the history of the Brotherhood.

Behind the scenes
Like many other characters in the Brotherhood, Sophia has a substantial amount of cut material present in the files, including unique reactions to disturbing her and Vree at night when they're meditating (likely also part of a day/night cycle that would include them retiring to the back room),[7] float dialogue that would have displayed during a class,[8] and delivering some pulse grenades from Michael to her, for the purposes of research.[9] Most of these strings are completely orphaned and unreferenced by the script.
