The Ogua is a type of creature and cryptid found in Appalachia in Fallout 76, introduced in the Once in a Blue Moon update.
Background
The Ogua is a large, turtle-like creature.[1] The Cult of the Mothman have targeted the Ogua in an attempt to sacrifice it to the Mothman, believing the Ogua's "ancient" blood holds divine secrets and the ability to see into the past.[2] To this end, they have been tracking the creature[3] as it travels south in the Cranberry Bog, where it has taken up residence.[2]
Characteristics
The Ogua has a special ability in which it will hide in its shell, temporarily protecting it from all damage. Attacking players must wait for it to emerge from the shell to attack again.

Behind the scenes
- The Ogua, also known as the Monongahela River Monster, is a creature in real-life West Virginia folklore, reportedly first associated with the 1746 disappearance of a young boy and popularized with a 1983 sighting in Marion County. It has been variously described as a 20 foot-long creature similar to a monstrous snapping turtle dwelling in the Monongahela River.[Non-game 1][Non-game 2]
- According to Jonathan Rush, the Ogua had been on the radar of the Bethesda Game Studios design team for a while, and thus "it was only a matter of time" before it was implemented.[Non-game 3]
- The 3D model for the Ogua was created by Double Eleven artist Jordan Conlin.[Non-game 4]
