Gold Owl (黄金の梟 Gorudo Auru) was an Alchemist Guild located in the continent of Guiltina.[1]
Overview
Gold Owl was Guiltina's number one Alchemist Guild and in recent times, was mostly comprised of puppets who looked Human, Alchemical Dolls, and illusions created from Alchemy.[1][2][3][4][5][6] Its members not only practiced Alchemy, which allowed them to transmute materials into new forms or different creations (having even been able to replace damaged body parts or reanimate the dead through corpse-based Dolls if the Alchemist in question was skilled enough), but were also tasked with finding precious or rare items for use as Alchemy materials.[3][7][8]
Location and Building

The location of the Gold Owl is in the southeastern region of the continent of Guiltina, north of Filan.[9]
History
After leaving his mentor Elefseria out of fear of the witch hunts, Duke Barbaroa found success as an Alchemist, founded Gold Owl, and became its first Guildmaster. During the clash between Magia Dragon and the Five Dragon Gods, Elefseria requested Duke to create a weapon to turn the tide in the battle, so Duke alchemized Athena.[10] Some time later, Duke would apparantly pass away due to Alchemy failure, though survived and took on the name Zalam, founding the Lead Eagle Alchemist Guild an unknown amount of time later.[11][12][13]
At some point, the Gold Dragon God Viernes abandoned his physical body, became a concept, and possessed the Gold Owl guildhall with his will, alchemizing an illusion embodying the concept of Duke to serve as his "voice."[14][15][16] Having hoped to control the other Dragon Gods, Duke would build up forces to help him, such as alchemizing the "pride" of his Alchemy Gennai and Kotetsu and mind controlling Fire & Flame's Signario Sisters after recognizing them as his enemies while they were travelling.[17][18][19][20]
Duke would eventually find Athena in Ishgar, promising to alchemize emotions for her, causing her to leave her position in the White Magic cult Rebellious and join Gold Owl.[21][22] He would also come upon the corpse of deceased Spriggan 12 member God Serena and used it to create an Alchemical Doll, restoring Serena to life as a result.[3][23] Gold Owl pursued the Dogra Cores and then the Dragon Slayer Magic of Fairy Tail members in order to "complete" Athena, using Gold Owl's connection to the city of Filan in order to send some of its citizens to capture Fairy Tail members, even having offered a cash reward for those who could successfully complete the task.[24][25][26]
Following the events of Fairy Tail and Sabertooth's battle with Gold Owl, Viernes' concept would be separated from the Gold Owl guildhall and Athena would sacrifice herself to give him a vessel that could be defeated.[27] Viernes' defeat would lead to the disappearance of most of Gold Owl's member since they were illusions created by him, with the exceptions of the Signario Sisters, who were freed from Viernes' control, and Athena, whose consciousness was transferred into the body of Athena II.[28]
Strength
Noted to be the number one Alchemist Guild in Guiltina, most of the membets do not utilize Magic, with the exception of the former Spriggan 12 member God Serena, Athena and the fake Duke, who use both Magic and Alchemy, and Athena II, who was made from stolen Magic and could absorb more to increase her power.[1][29][30][31][32][33][34][35]
A factor of the guild's strength is the nature of the power source behind Alchemy. Being different from Magic Power, it doesn't drain from usage, unlike it's Magical counterpart. The Alchemical Dolls of the guild will never lose stamina, not being designed with the concept, and cannot die so long as the fake Duke is still alive.[36][37][38]
While the Fairy Tail Mage Gray Fullbuster viewed the less prominent members as weak, the aforementioned God Serena, who has been noted as Ishgar's strongest Mage, stated that the Guild's master and two of its members; the Signario Sisters, to have been stronger than him and demonstrative of what he saw as a power gap between Ishgar and the world. Fairy Tail's S Class Mage Erza Scarlet also recognized the sisters' strength.[39][40][41] Two of the other members of the guild, Gennai and Kotetsu, were known by the fake Duke as the pride of his Alchemy, and were acknowledged as considerably strong, alongside the fake Duke and revived Serena, by the previously mentioned Gray.[18][42]
Two of the guild's most powerful members were Athena, the White Wizard whose power rivals that of Zeref Dragneel, also known as the Negative Legacy of the Magic World for the devastation she caused fighting Dragons, and Athena II, the Doll intended by the fake Duke to replace the original Athena, referred to at the peak of her power as the "embodiment of destruction" and shown to be capable of easily defeating most of Team Natsu and Jellal Fernandes, speculated to have been capable of slaying Dragons.[43][44][45][46][47] But the strongest figure associated with the guild was the Gold Dragon God Viernes, whose will posessed and controlled the guild, and along with the rest of his fellow Dragon Gods, was said to be equal in power to Acnologia.[14][48]
