Summon

Summon is a Surround spell from Fable, Fable: The Lost Chapters, and Fable Anniversary. This spell will create an ally that fights with you. Higher levels will increase the time your creature is summoned. The strongest pets (in order of weakest to strongest including TLC) are White Balverine, Wraith, and Minion.

Description

Summon wrenches a creature's soul from the netherworld to help the caster. If this creature kills another, it is replaced by the soul of the newly fallen victim. Higher levels allow the caster to keep the creature summoned for longer.

Summon List

In the game files for Fable and Fable: The Lost Chapters, there is what is known as CSummonableCreatureDef. This determines the type of creatures that are available to summon and each are assigned a rank number; the higher number, the "stronger" the creature is considered to be. As such, if a creature with a lower rank kills one of a higher rank, it will be replaced.

CSummonableCreatureDef

This is the order of summons based on the ranking system in the game files:

  • Level 1 Hornets (Green) are ranked at 1.
  • Level 2 Hornets (Brown) are ranked at 2.
  • Level 3 Hornets (Blue) are ranked at 3.
  • Stag Beetles (Blue) are ranked at 4.
  • Queen Beetles (Red) are ranked at 4.
  • Scorpions (Black) are ranked at 5.
  • Level 1 Bandit Grunts (Brown outfit) are ranked at 6.
  • Hobbe Grunts are ranked at 6.5.
  • Hobbe Spellcasters are ranked at 6.75
  • Hobbe Lieutenants are ranked at 7.6.
  • Level 1 Bandit Leaders are ranked at 7.75.
  • Undead Soldiers (Smaller ones) are ranked 7.9
  • Level 2 Bandit Grunts (Red outfit) are ranked at 8.
  • Balverines are ranked at 9.75.
  • Screamers are ranked at 9.85.
  • Undead Lieutenants (No Helmet) are ranked at 9.9.
  • Level 2 Bandit Leaders are ranked at 10.
  • Level 3 Bandit Grunts (Black outfit) are ranked at 11.
  • Assassins are ranked at 12.5.
  • Level 3 Bandit Leaders are ranked at 12.75.
  • Undead Generals (Helmets) are ranked at 20.
  • White Balverines are ranked at 24.
  • Wraiths are ranked at 25.
  • Minion (Wardog) are ranked at 28.
  • Minion (Dreadwing) are ranked at 28.

Notes

  • Initially this spell summons a wasp.
  • This spell can only be mastered by a good hero.
  • A summon is as strong as the creature it represents.
  • Different creatures do not cost different amounts of mana to summon.
  • Kills and actions by your summon do not affect you (experience or morality).
  • Upgrading of a summon is permanent. All subsequent summons will be with that new enemy.
  • You can only have 1 summon at a time, this excludes those that are summoned with Ghost Sword.
  • Summoned creatures are unaffected by the Slow Time spell, moving and attacking at their normal rate.
  • Important: Stag Beetles have issues with being able attack an enemy for you. This means that you may be stuck with it.
  • Your summon cannot become a boss creature (with exception to the White Balverine), Summoner nor a stationary enemy like trolls.
  • When your summoned creature kills an enemy, the defeated enemy's soul will take its place. However, it will not "downgrade"; it will only be replaced with a stronger enemy.
  • Recasting Summon while you have a summon out is less costly than an initial cast, making it a useful spell to cast repeatedly in order to gain Will experience. However, it does not reset the summon time.
  • Observed sequence of upgrades: Wasp(starting creature)->Stronger Wasps/Insects->Bandits->Undead->Bandit Chief->Stronger Bandits->Stronger Undead->Balverines->Stronger Bandit Chief->White Balverine->Minion Warrior->Minion Spellcaster(strongest)
  • Since many players state that the strongest summon is the White Balverine, it is important to know that there are five chances of getting a White Balverine as a summon. (The first that you face on the "White Balverine" main quest, three at the Arena, and another one at the Temple of Avo during the mission "The Ransom Victim" if you pay for the rescue and don't attack the assassins).
    • Unlike the Dreadwing, however, the White Balverine has poor blocking skills and lacks ranged attacks. Its high health is also rarely utilised due to the limited time before the summon is deactivated.
  • There is a chance that, when casting the summon spell with a new hero after previously having it in a different hero, the summon will be the same creature as the last hero's. Specifically, a case was that the first hero had a Minion Spellcaster, and when the new hero first purchased the spell and used it, their summon was a Minion Spellcaster consistently. Needs more testing.

Trivia

  • Frost Balverines are the exact same rank as regular Balverines and give off the exact same Summon.
  • Even though Guards and Bandits are very similar in design, it is not possible to get any type of Guard as a Summon.
  • Screamers from the Northern Wastes are the exact same rank as regular Screamers and give off the exact same Summon.
  • Despite every variation of Hornet being stronger and quicker than Stag Beetles, the Beetles themselves are in fact a higher rank in the game files.
  • To prevent the player from acquiring certain creatures as a summon (such as Trolls and Boss Enemies), they are listed in the game files as rank -100.
  • The White Balverines that spawn when doing the "kill over 1000 guards" Easter Egg in Oakvale uses the exact same CSummonableCreatureDef as regular White Balverines, despite being an entirely different creature entry in the game files (Creature_Monster_Guard).
  • The summon with the highest HP is the Assassin that appears during the quest Murder with a Twist. The assassin has 5000 HP. If the player summons him, it will still have 5000 HP. Note however, that a summon with more HP isn't necessarily better as it has a limited time and can simply be summoned again when it disappears.
