The UNN Zenobia (LCC-20) is a Nathan Hale-class command ship within the United Nations Navy (UNN).[1] It served during, if not before as well, the Free Navy Conflict. During its time transporting the Secretary-General of the UN, Chrisjen Avasarala, the ship was also referred to as UNN One.[2]

History

"Strange Dogs"

The Zenobia was constructed in the Bush shipyards in orbit at Luna.

Roughly six months following the initial Bombardment of Earth, Secretary-General of the UN Chrisjen Avasarala resided aboard the Zenobia during the Free Navy Conflict, escorted by former Martian Marine Bobbie Draper as her liasion. Journalist Monica Stuart was also present on the ship alongside other reporters, and accosted Avasarala, attempting to gain information on the status of UN negotiations with Marco Inaros. The Secretary-General was uncooperative, however, and remained tight-lipped on the nature of UN government decisions.

Later, in Avasarala's quarters, the Secretary-General and Draper discuss their frustration with the ongoing conflict. However, after James Holden's report regarding the Azure Dragon reaches her desk, Avasarala becomes inspired on how to proceed, expressing her firm resolve for a UN victory.[3]

"Azure Dragon"

The UNN Zenobia left Earth orbit along with an escort fleet towards the Belt. Aboard, Avasarala coordinated the Rocinante ambush of the Azure Dragon, along with maintaining contact with high ranking officers of both the UNN and MCRN.[4]

"Force Projection"

The Zenobia partook in the Ceres Offensive as the command ship of the EMC Joint Fleet. From it, Avasarala, UNN Fleet Admiral Sidiqi, Gareth and MCRN Admiral Sandrine Kirino witnessed the initial occupation of Ceres' docks by United Nations Marine Corps (UNMC) and Martian Marine Corps (MMC) marines, and interrogated a captive, Nico Sanjrani.[5]

"Redoubt"

Secretary-General Avasarala, UNN Fleet Admiral Sidiqi, Gareth and MCRN Admiral Kirino witnessed the protests instigated by Sanjrani on Ceres aboard Zenobia. Kirino proposed to relocate their fleet at Ceres to the Sol ring, in hopes of capturing the Ring Space and Medina Station before the Free Navy can entrench itself further, but is refused by Avasarala, instead opting to continue the humanitarian relief mission. After leaving the CIC, Kirino discretly informed MCR Naval Command of the response, and is made aware of the MCRN's planned assault on Medina.[6]

"Why We Fight"

Following the First Battle of Medina Station, MCRN Lieutenant Mazzuca briefed Avasarala, Sidiqi and Gareth on the death of Admiral Kirino, the failure of the assault and the revelation of the Ring Station railgun installations. The latter three were all in favor of a joint campaign to attack Medina, but Avasarala dismissed their proposal as being too risky. With Avasarala and Draper alone in the briefing quarters, they hotly debated about their next course of action.

Later, Avasarala, along with the Secret Service and UNMC personnel, left the UNN Zenobia to set foot on Ceres and personally meet Camina Drummer. At the Ceres docks, both agreed to an alliance between the EMC and Belter forces loyal to Drummer after her raid on a Free Navy supply depot.[7]

Trivia

  • Septimia Zenobia was a queen of the Palmyrene Empire in Syria. Initially queen consort to her husband Odaenathus, after his assassination she became queen regent in the stead of her young son.
  • The bottom text of the Zenobia's emblem reads, in Latin, "Tellure Una"; translated, this roughly becomes "One World". However, as "Tellure" is in the ablative form of Latin, the phrase could also mean "From One World", "By One World", or "With One World".
