History

Throughout the series

"Strange Dogs"

Upon investigating the source of a transmission to an asteroid equipped with a fusion core bound for Earth, the crew of the Rocinante discovered a sequence of coded bursts in the Belt—each of which was the source of an asteroid launched at Earth. When these signals were triangulated, they revealed the orbit of a spotter ship, whose name—the Azure Dragon—was determined through evaluation of the guidance logs. This information was relayed to UN Secretary-General Chrisjen Avasarala, who expressed her ardent support for Rocinante captain James Holden's desire to destroy the ship and eliminate Free Navy leader Marco Inaros' ability to further cripple Earth.[1]

Having acquired a UN specialist—former MMC Gunnery Sergeant Roberta "Bobbie" Draper—for the mission at hand, the Rocinante gave pursuit to the Azure Dragon, maintaining stealth behind the ship's drive cone. However, when they were spotted and the Dragon made an escape burn, the Rocinante quickly followed. The Dragon engaged in evasive maneuvers, burning away parts of the Rocinante's hull surface; despite this, the Rocinante was able to align with the Dragon, and Draper leaped towards the ship, successfully landing and initiating a localized electromagnetic pulse (EMP) to shut down the ship's engines.

Of the Dragon's four crew members, three exited the ship and attempted to neutralize Holden and his boarding team, although all were killed. The Dragon's airlock was breached and the final crewmember was shot; Holden and his crew gained possession of the Dragon's trajectory data for all of the asteroids Inaros intended to fling at Earth and Mars. This data was later forwarded onwards to Secretary-General Avasarala by Draper, the Dragon now captured by the Rocinante.[2]
