Green Mage

"Have fun in the Mushroom Forest! I have endured enough here without going INSANE!!!" ― Green Mage

Green Mage, also known as Green, is a character in Everhood. They are one of the primary antagonists and appear at several locations in game.

Characteristics

Appearance

Green Mage is a floating creature garbed in a tattered green wizard cloak and wizard hat. Their face is obscured, but a single large eye is visible. They do not have a physical body, other than two purple hands.

During Medallion, Green Mage cosplays as the Evil Wizard, a red recolor of their usual outfit. Their cloak is adorned with golden lining and is less tattered. They wear a golden crown wrapped around the base of their hat and golden rings on their fingers. Their iris is now red.

Personality

Green Mage is an aloof, mischievous mage who seeks having fun over other endeavors. They enjoy playing Medallion as a pastime.

Battle

Green Mage

The first Green Mage fight occurs in the beginning of the Mushroom Forest, after the player assists Green Mage in finding their eye and receives a Clay Pot in return. Dodging all attacks will unlock the "No Hit Green Mage" achievement.

When Green Mage uses skull attacks, it is recommended to move to lanes 1 and 2, because at a certain point, they will do a sweeping attack that starts from lane 5 and moves left. Following that attack, lane 3 is the safest, so remain in that lane as much as possible, dodging when necessary. The song will loop one more time and repeat the same pattern.

Evil Wizard

The Evil Wizard fight occurs after reaching the final area of Medallion. Dodging all attacks will unlock the "No Hit Evil Wizard" achievement.

The fight does not loop, unlike the other fights within the Medallion session. If the player reaches the end of the fight without killing the Evil Wizard, Rasta Beast will interrupt the fight and deliver a finishing punch, regardless of remaining health. Because of this, it is possible to complete the fight without damaging the Evil Wizard at all.

Green Mage Duel

The final Green Mage fight occurs after retrieving Red's arm and entering the basement of the board game house in Midnight Town. Dodging all attacks will unlock the "No Hit Green Mage Duel" achievement.

At about a minute and a half into the battle, Green Mage will begin throwing lightning attacks. Similar to black notes, these attacks cannot be absorbed and must be dodged.

Story

Green Mage is first found in the Mushroom Forest, missing their eyeball gemstone. Once the player returns it to them, Green Mage is grateful for their kindness and transforms a boulder blocking Red's path into a Clay Pot. Red walks a short distance away and is quickly interrupted by Green Mage, who calls Red the enemy and engages them in combat. Green Mage is defeated and remembers that they are late for an appointment, floating away to return to the board game house in Midnight Town.

In Midnight Town, Green Mage invites Red to play in the fantasy board game, Medallion, along with Zigg, Flan, Rasta Beast, the Mushrooms, and Noseferatchu. They take on the role of "Game Master Green," controlling the events of the game by building the environment around the player as they continue. Green Mage announces that the second area of the game is a swamp, which Zigg complains is cliché, causing Green Mage to alter the swamp into badlands, not to be outdone. This leaves the badlands area very rough and unfinished, with just rocks and dirt along the path.

Red finally arrives at the top of the Evil Wizard's Tower, where the Evil Wizard (a red recolor of Green Mage) is lying in wait. It is revealed that Rasta Beast has been captured, then the Evil Wizard attacks Red. The player can either deplete the Evil Wizard's health or wait for the battle to end automatically. If the fight ends automatically, Rasta Beast breaks free of their cage and deals the finishing blow. Red wins Medallion, and Green Mage gives them a Blue Door piece as a reward.

The player can return to the board game house after getting Red's arm back. The room is empty, and the player is able to open the trapdoor with their arm. After entering the trapdoor, they will reach Green Mage inside of their playroom. They explain that the tally marks on the walls represent every passing year they have been in Everhood. They react if Red attempts to enter the endless corridor to the right, warning them not to go in there.
