SMG

Overview

The Sub-Machine Gun, or the SMG, is an early-game automatic weapon that can be made in the Arsenal for 55 Iridium. It can be found in the Arsenal's Guns 1 subcategory.

When the SMG shoots, it fires a single bullet within a 3.5 degree firing cone in the direction of the player's cursor. Each bullet deals 6.3-9.9 damage to the body or 18 damage to the head per shot.

The SMG consumes 1 Iridium per shot, and 10 rounds per second, consuming 10 iridium per second. It has fairly poor accuracy, with a 3.5 degree spread and a range of 96 studs, half that of the Assault Rifle. Because of its cheap, high damage output and short range, it is best suited for early-game close quarters and mid-range combat.

Appearance

The SMG is a short, automatic carbine with a short barrel and a stocky body. A vertical grip is attached to the bottom of the gun, with ironsights mounted to the top and a shoulder stock attached to its back. Most of the gun is colored iridium-grey, with some parts like the grip and sights being colored the player's teamcolor.

Usage Tips

  • The SMG has an extremely raw high damage output, as well as being the cheapest gun in the game to manufacture.
    • In certain cases, it can outperform the Minigun due to the latter's high bullet spread.
    • This makes it extremely prevalent in the early game.
    • Countering an SMG without one can be difficult.
  • The SMG has the shortest range of all bullet-firing guns in the game.
    • This, paired with its high damage output, can make the SMG a little tricky to use at times.
      • Players using the SMG will often use cover or terrain to get closer to their opponents and quickly kill them.
      • Uncommonly, players using the SMG will be defeated by players using the Pistol or the Shotgun, on account of the latter two's further range, despite their lower damage output.
    • The SMG will often be paired with a long-range weapon, like the Assault Rifle or the Sniper Rifle.
  • Turrets easily outrange the SMG, though any offensive rusher likely has an explosive like the Rocket Launcher, making this only partially effective.
  • Players should avoid exposing themselves for too long in SMG fights, as the gun kills extremely quickly.
    • Using cover to peek and fire is generally effective.
      • If a player is hiding behind cover for too long, rushing their position with the SMG can kill them or drive them out.
      • Single-shot guns like the Shotgun are occasionally effective against the SMG with lots of cover.
