Nando

One half of the notoriously attractive duo, "Schmando."

Nando was drawn by Karina Farek in Artists Try To Draw The Most Handsome Man, published October 6, 2018, hosted by herself, Julia Lepetit, and Jacob Andrews. In the episode, he was named after Hernando from Sense8 because of similarly having a beard and glasses.

Lore

In the webcomic series Hot Guy P.I.^[4], written and illustrated by Karina, Nando works as a private investigator alongside Schmidt.

Unlike Schmidt, Nando has a full name, which is Romeo Fernando Sy^[5]. The nickname Nando was given to him by Schmidt upon first meeting each other. He is 31 years old, and he is a Scorpio.

He has a 13 year old daughter, Nadia Sy Flores^[6], with his ex-partner Daniella Flores, and he has a knife-loving dog named Watson with Schmidt, named as such due to their jobs as detectives.^[7] Nando often tries to take part in Nadia's interests, but doesn't fully understand them. Nadia is often embarrassed by her father and how out-of-touch he is with Gen Z interests.

Biography

Nando was a singer while in high school.^[8] When he was 18, he had a daughter with his partner Daniella Flores, who they named Nadia.

13 years later, Nando was working in between jobs when he met Schmidt after he paid for a ridesharing service from Nando. He was then asked to work with him, thus beginning their partnership at Hot Guy Private Investigation Services.^[9]

Schmidt and Nando's first client together was the YouTuber deenaVLOGS, who hired them to retrieve her dog from a local pizzeria. However, it turned out that every time somebody got close to her dog in the alley next to that building, a different dog would become very aggressive towards them. When the pair went to fend off this dog, it grabbed a knife and stabbed Nando, at which Schmidt promptly became terrified. They regrouped and retrieved both dogs, eventually returning Deena's, while Nando kept "knife dog" for himself, naming it Watson.^[10]

Some time later, Schmidt noticed that his college friend and Instagram mutual, Jenny, had stopped posting to her Instagram account, and she wasn't returning his messages, which told him something was very wrong. After they broke into her apartment, they found objects uncharacteristically strewn about. There, they figured out that Jenny was attacked by an unnamed perpetrator, who also attacked Nando with a knife, threatening his life. Nando asked the attacker not to hurt him, as his daughter would be starting high school soon, and they were saved by Schmidt signaling Watson to steal the attacker's knife, allowing Schmidt to call the police. They arrested the man, who revealed that he was actually working for somebody. Nando found a card that fell out of the criminal's pocket with a yellow and blue logo, leading to their next case.^[11]
