Crackle is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it is a group-target ice spell that is often learned by Mages.
Description
Lacerates one group of enemies with a volley of ice spears, and is associated with the Icicle dirk, being cast whenever the dagger is used as an item in battle.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III
Making its debut, it is learned by Mages and Sages at level 20, dealing around 42~58 points of damage to 1 group of enemies. It costs 6 MP to cast, and is also used by Shadows, Freezing fogs, and Merkings, as well as Mermen in the HD-2D Remake.
Dragon Quest IV
Learned by Borya at level 12, it deals 35~45 damage and costs 5 MP to cast. It is also used by Moosifers, Spinchillas, Baalzack, Kirk Buzzer, and Psaro the Manslayer's 3rd form. In the remakes, it deals 42~58 ice-based damage.
Dragon Quest V
Learned by recruited Powie yowies at level 15, Madchen at level 14, recruited Blizzybodies at level 12, recruited Jailcats at level 16, and recruited Men o' war at level 30, while already learned by recruited Moosifers and Old men of the Sea, it acts the same as in III, and costs 5 MP to cast once again. It is also used by Hypothermions, Blizzybodies, Pazuzus, Old men of the sea, and the Chimaera pawn, as well as Moosifers once again.
Dragon Quest VI
Learned by advancing to Rank 6 of the Mage vocation, it acts the same as in previous appearances and costs 5 MP to cast once again. It is also used by Merkings in battle.
Dragon Quest VII
Learned by advancing to Rank 8 of the Mage vocation, it acts the same as in previous appearances and costs 5 MP to cast once again. It is also used by Biting batboons, Very devils, Skeleton squires, Bone barons, Necromacers, Briny mines, Abyss divers, and Nava.
Dragon Quest VIII
Learned by Jessica at level 16, it impales an enemy group for 30~40 before her Wisdom hits 100, with a maximum of 73~86 once her wisdom reaches 200. It costs 5 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Mushroom mages, Frogmen, and the Trap box, as well as Abyss Divers once again. It is also used by Gold nugcats in the 3DS remake.
Dragon Quest IX
Learned by Mages and Minstrels at Level 16, it is cast for 8 MP and rips into a group of enemies with sharp icicles. Base damage is 42~58 before the caster's Magical might exceeds 100, and the cap is 142~157 at 999 Magical Might. It is also used by Shivery shrubberies, Sculptrices, and the Dreadmaster, as well as Spinchillas and Abyss Divers once again.
Dragon Quest X
Learned by Mages at level 24, Minstrels at level 25, Death Masters at level 69, and by investing 12 skill points into a recruited monster's Crack Knowledge skill tree, it costs 8 MP to cast once again with damage being calculated as Magical Might x 0.245 +18.5 for a cap of 132~140. It is also used by Jailcats, Seaslimes, Sizzards, Snowballs, Girguish, Relulu, and Murderous grudges, as well as Shadows, Freezing Fogs, once again. In the Offline version of the game, it is learned by the Hero in the Mage vocation at level 24 and the Minstrel vocation at level 25, as well as Galmy when she fights alongside the Hero and Miko Himea.
Dragon Quest XI
Learned by Veronica at level 26 and already learned by Rab when he joins the party, it costs 8 MP to cast once again and is also used by Mermaniacs, Professauruses, Crack-billed platypunks, Slimecicles, Shell slimes and Khalamari kids gone Vicious, Boreal serpents, Side winders, Snowbirds, Krystalinda, Mordegon's staffs, and the Necrogondolier, as well as Mushroom Mages, Spinchillas, Very Devils, Hypothermions, Shadows, and Blizzybodies once again.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3/Professional
Crackle has the same attributes as in the previous two Monsters games.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince
Crackle costs 12 MP and is learned via the Crack Afficionado, Crack Virtuoso, Freeze, Frosty Receptionist, and Thrill-Seeker talents. It has a base power of 40 and will deal an average of 160 damage at 699 Wisdom.
Dragon Quest Heroes
Learned by investing 8 skill points into Jessica, it summons a barrage of ice crystals in front of her and damages any enemies unfortunate to be near her, freezing them in the process. It costs 13 MP to cast.
Dragon Quest Heroes II
Acting the same as in the first Heroes, it is learned at level 7 of Lazarel and Teresa's Whip Proficiency in the Mage and Sage vocations, and by Jessica at level 12 and higher after investing 8 skill points. It costs 17 MP to cast, and is also one of the Silvapithecus's spells when players have transformed into one via its Monster Medal.
Dragon Quest of the Stars
Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is the spell of the Spirit staff and can also be equipped to other weapons as well.

Dragon Quest Walk
Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned at level 20 when wielding the Starry cane, level 15 when wielding the Glumbrella, level 10 when wielding the Magical booster, already learned when wielding the Heavenly dark lord staff, and equipping the Snowbird and Holly oliver Hearts, costing 15 MP to cast.
Dragon Quest Tact
Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by Drohl drones, Slimecicles, and Krystalinda at level 26, Mushroom Mages and Hypothermions at level 20, Umbras at level 22, Blizzybodies at level 32, Moosifers at level 48, and Tortured souls at level 46, costing 24 MP to cast. A scroll of this spell can be obtained by clearing Chapter 7 Episode 5: Another Day Another Adventure and Stage 7 of Krystalinda and Maldragora's Battle Roads.

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - A Hero's Bonds
Crackle appears as a spell for Matoriv and the Luminary Leader. It is a long-range attack that inflicts magical Ice damage over a wide area. The main way to unlock the spell is during Matoriv's Cool-Headed Grand Sorcerer event or through the shop exchange.
Dragon Quest Treasures
Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by Silhouettes, Tundrackies, Queen slimes, Cutie slimes, and Pearly wights at level 18, costing 10 MP to cast.
Dragon Quest Champions
Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned at level 20 when wielding the Spirit Staff and Starry Cane weapons, costing 18 MP to cast.
Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest - The Adventure of Dai
Appears twice. The first is a normal spell used by Popp and the second is named Magic Bullet: Crackle and it is the Coup de Grâce of Warrior Priestes Maam's Magic Bullet Gun
