Throwing Carver

"Throwing Carver" is the second segment of the third episode of The Weekenders. It premiered on March 11, 2000 alongside "The Perfect Weekend".

Synopsis

Tish takes an art class at the museum and makes an ugly statue of Carver. Carver himself, and the others try to keep their mediocre reviews to themselves.

Plot

Friday

Tino is getting ready to spend the day with his friends before revealing that Tish has a "surprise" for them, though he admits that every time she does it's always a trip to the museum. Sure enough, Tino, Carver, and Lor find themselves on another boring art museum tour and contemplate leaving when they realize that Tish is nowhere to be seen. On a whim, they check the cafeteria and find that Tish is in the middle of using the various foods and snacks to create a new art piece which is doted on by other people. The museum curator asks her to stop and suggests that she simply take an art class that they offer, which she happily does.

Saturday

Tish chooses Carver to be her muse for a potential art piece. Being egotistical, Carver happily accepts as he wants to be easily recognized. Tish finishes her clay sculpture, but the group see that she created a horrific abstract facsimile of Carver. While Tish is with her parents celebrating her "success", the other three agree that it is a terrible piece of art with Carver dropping it out the window. Tino and Lor inform him that they need to maintain that it is good so as not to hurt Tish's feelings as they believe her artistic mind will not accept it. Tish continues to think that her friends love it and decides to enter it at the mall art fair.

Sunday

The art piece, simply called "Carver", gets recognized by everyone with Carver getting more and more nervous about its public unveiling. Every time he runs in fear, Tino and Lor try to hide his feelings about Tish's sculpture. While at the pizza place, Carver continues to plot out a rather ludicrous scheme to get rid of the sculpture once and for all when Tish arrives to announce that her sculpture will now get attention of the local news and that come Monday morning, Carver will become a household name. Carver is terrified of the implications and once again runs away in fear.

Tino goes to comfort Carver who has finally had enough and tells him that he will tell Tish the truth, despite Tino's fears of what may happen. Carver tells Tish that he hates the statue, but she laughs it off by telling him that she can take criticism and that he should have told her to begin with. She remolds the sculpture to resemble Tino, mistakenly believing that his praises were genuine, and the sculpture becomes a hit, though Tino is humiliated. Tino attempts to wrap up the lesson when Carver suddenly takes over and tells the audience that one should always be true to themselves. Carver asks how he did and Tino tells him his fly was down.
