Simea is a supporting character who appears in Disney's 2024 animated feature film Moana 2. She is the youngest daughter of Chief Tui and Sina and the younger sister of Moana.
Simea is the 3-year-old sister of Moana, who aspires to be like her sister and yearns to spend time with Moana.
Trivia
She is 3 years old by the events of the second film.[1]
Since the sequel takes place approximately three years after the events of the previous film, Sina either must've become pregnant sometime during the events of the original film (or at least shortly thereafter) while Moana was out voyaging throughout the ocean, or she must've experienced a cryptic pregnancy and was close to full term during the first film.
The name Simea means "listen" or "God has heard" in Hebrew.
She is the second sibling of a Disney Princess to be introduced in a sequel.
The concept of Moana having siblings was touched upon during the story development of the first film, as Moana was originally going to be the youngest/only daughter of ten children -- her nine older brothers would've sailed off the island, leaving their sister behind, but Moana would've eventually gone off to rescue them.
Simea's outfit has the same color palette that Moana wore in the first film.
Despite her role being a little big in the sequel, as well as general criticism of the movie, Simea has already become a fan favorite character.
When Simea first meets Maui, she grabs him by the ear and firmly introduces herself the same way Moana did when she met Maui in the first film.
At the beginning of the film, Simea reenacts Moana's first meeting with Maui, dramatically repeating the instructions Tala gave Moana before passing. This moment is what inspires Simea to do similar to Maui when she meets him herself.
She could become the next matai ("chieftess" in Samoan) of Motunui if Moana abdicates the position to take up her new duties as a demigoddess.
