Max Schnell (known as Sebastian Schnell in the German version) is a minor character in the 2011 Disney•Pixar animated film Cars 2. He is a well-known German race car. Initially appearing among the World Grand Prix racecars, he has made subsequent appearances in games, such as Cars 2: The Video Game and Cars: Fast as Lightning.

"Max Schnell started as a humble production sedan from Stuttgart, Germany. An avid amateur racer, Max would practice alone in the back roads of the dense Black Forest—a trek that eventually caught the eye of a racing team owner. Soon Max was on a professional circuit, bearing the #4, and as his horsepower increased, he converted himself to carbon fiber, dropping his weight and getting into prime racing shape. He's won more races at Motorheimring than any other World Torque Champion League car in history. A naturally brilliant engineer, he used logic and analytics to refine his build, and plans to approach the World Grand Prix in the same perfectly calculated manner."
Physical appearance
Max, according to Meet the Cars, is a 2009 World Torque League Championship Racer, which is an allusion to the World Touring Car Championship. His model is a Pixar in-house design based on the 2009 Mercedes-Benz AMG C-Class (W204) DTM car. Max is powered by a 4.0 liter V-8 engine with 470 HP. He can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 mph. He is a dark greyish purple car, with the German flag design painted on his trunk and roof, and the World Torque Champion League logo painted on his hood. He has grey rims and a black spoiler with the World Grand Prix logo on it.
Max's tires read "TRU-TREAD - Traction A Temperature A - P215/65R15 89H", a recurring inscription on the tires of many characters in Cars 2.

Max Schnell is easygoing, agreeable, and accommodating, and Max Schnell is often conflict-averse and seek harmony and peace. He dislikes being without inner peace or harmony, and the Core Desire is to be at peace with themselves and others.

In addition to being an incredibly talented race car that is capable of extraordinary racing abilities, Schnell has also shown skill in spy training and is capable of utilizing various weapons. Additionally, Max's official bio recognizes his gifts in engineering.

Cars 2
Like all World Grand Prix racers, Max Schnell participated in all three races of the competition as well as the Radiator Springs Grand Prix. He was first seen at the party in Tokyo with the other racers. Max's performance in the W.G.P. was really good. Max went up to the third position on the dirt section followed by Nigel Gearsley in Tokyo but started falling behind afterwards. At the beginning of the Tokyo race, he at first took the 1st position. But after time, he was passed by Francesco Bernoulli, Lightning McQueen, Carla Veloso, Shu Todoroki, and Jeff Gorvette. He was the third race car to be nearly destroyed by the Lemons' camera, as his engine was blown by the machine near the end of the race. In the Porto Corsa and London races, he was seen both times following Miguel Camino from the 5th to 4th position. During the huge crash in Porto Corsa, he tries to brake before the pile-up. However, he fails and violently collides with Miguel Camino and Shu Todoroki. Soon afterward, Raoul ÇaRoule and Rip Clutchgoneski crash into them. He apparently got fixed and raced in London, and then appeared at the Radiator Springs Grand Prix.

Cars 2: The Video Game
Max Schnell is an unlockable and playable character in Cars 2: The Video Game and is unlocked once the player reaches Clearance Level 3. Max is a member of the medium-weight class and is more powerful than he is speedy.
Disney Infinity
Though Max does not physically appear in Disney Infinity, a painting of him can be seen hanging on the wall in Ramone's House of Body Art.
Cars: Fast as Lightning
In the December 2014 update for Cars: Fast as Lightning, Max Schnell was introduced as a playable character, but the player must purchase him and his track for 275 gems. Schnell has two additional paint jobs, Chrome and Empire, which can be unlocked by earning enough stickers from playing practice races on Max's Track, or by purchasing them with gems.

- Max's name comes from the German phrase mach schnell, which translates as "make it quick.
- His name is also similar to that of the late Swiss-Austrian actor Maximillian Schell.
- Max Schnell has on his hood the inscription "WTCL". This represents the name of his racing league, the World Torque Champion League. It is an allusion to the WTCC, the World Touring Car Championship.
- Max Schnell appears to be an allusion to the DTM champion, Bernd Schneider. Max's backstory mentions him being the car with most success on the Motorheimring circuit compared to other cars in his league. Similarly, Bernd Schneider has also achieved a lot of success on the "Hockenheimring" circuit. He also drove for Mercedes-Benz throughout his DTM racing career, as well as being an ambassador to the brand.
- Max's pit stop crew chief is an Audi TT named Otto Bonn.

- In the toy line, Max Schnell invites his fellow T-ROC racers to Nurburg, Germany to race on the track there, where he also decks them out with Carbon Fiber elements to make them faster. The cars included in the Carbon Racers line are Lightning McQueen, Max Schnell, Raoul Çaroule, Miguel Camino, Nigel Gearsley, and Lewis Hamilton.
- According to Meet the Cars, Max is a 2009 World Torque League Championship Racer who is based on the Mercedes-Benz AMG W204 C-Class DTM, a touring race car used in the DTM racing series from 2007-2011.
- In the German version of Cars 2, Max Schnell is renamed Sebastian Schnell and voiced by recent F1 champion Sebastian Vettel. He replaces Jeff Gorvette for one scene and becomes the racer who, along with Lewis Hamilton, meets Lightning McQueen at the World Grand Prix welcome party. Nevertheless, Jeff Gorvette still appears in the races.[2][3]
