Marrok

Marrok (also known as the First Brother) is a character who appears in the Disney+ Star Wars series Ahsoka.

Background

Marrok is a mysterious Force-sensitive warrior and mercenary who once served the Galactic Empire as an Inquisitor. After the Empire's fall, he was hired by the Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth. During this time, Marrok worked with other Force-sensitive mercenaries, Baylan Skoll, and his apprentice, Shin Hati.

Marrok aided Morgan Elsbeth in her quest to find Grand Admiral Thrawn, until he was vanquished by Ahsoka Tano in a final Lightsaber duel on the planet Seatos.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

  • The Force: Marrok is strong with the Force, and like all his fellow Inquisitors was trained to use the dark side.
    • Telekinesis: Marrok can use telekinesis to pull his lightsaber back after throwing it at an opponent.

Abilities

  • Master Lightsaber Duelist: As an Inquisitor, Marrok is an experienced duelist, especially when he was hunting Jedi. Unlike the Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother, Marrok was able to give Ahsoka a fight in their first battle on Corellia. However, these abilities were not enough to help him defeat Tano during their final fight. Unlike the other Inquisitors (sans The Grand Inquisitor), Marrok is shown to only use his spinning feature sparely, highlighting he is a formidable and proficient duelist among the Inquisitors and also showing he can switch styles in combat.
    • Form I: Marrok is highly skilled in Shii-Cho.
    • Form II: Marrok has some skill in Makashi.
    • Form III: Marrok is highly skilled in Soresu.
    • Form IV: Marrok is highly skilled in Ataru.
    • Form IV: Marrok is highly skilled in Shien/Djem So.
    • Form VI: Marrok is highly skilled in Niman.
    • Form VII: Marrok is highly skilled in Juyo.
    • Tràkata: Marrok is highly skilled in Tràkata.

Weapons and Equipment

  • Double-bladed spinning lightsaber: Like all the other Inquisitors, Marrok used a red double-bladed spinning lightsaber.
  • RP82 Fiend fighter: Marrok flew a RP82 Fiend fighter, while fighting Ahsoka and Sabine on Seatos.

Trivia

  • In Arthurian legend, Marrok is the name of a knight who was turned into a werewolf by his wife, who had learned these skills from the witch Morgan Le Fay. In Ahsoka, "Morgan" is the name of Marrok's employer, one of the witches of Dathomir. The wolf motif also ties in with Marrok's fellow dark-side users Shin Hati and Baylan Skoll, who share their last names with two wolves from Norse mythology.
  • Marrok was first mistaken to be the Eighth Brother, Ahsoka encountered on Malachor, due to having a similar appearance. This was proven false when the creators said Marrok is a different character and that the Eighth Brother fell to his death.
    • Funny enough, Marrok and the Eighth Brother both have armor inspired by plated medieval armor.
  • Marrok shares the same name as Embo's pet Anooba, Marrok, who was also named after a Arthurian legend.
