When the Tesseract falls to Earth, and lands in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy, before the colonization of America, it transforms a lake into a gateway to the stars, and leads Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman, on a quest to discover her power.

Development
Ryan Little created the character, in close collaboration with members of the Mohawk Nation like historian Doug George. Her name, pronounced 'KAH-HORTI', is a real, Wolf Clan name, meaning 'she stirs the forest' or is someone who motivates those around her. Ryabn Little adds, "In her debut adventure, Kahhori will have to live up to her name to recruit powerful allies into the fight to save her people and change the course of history forever".[1]
Personality
Kahhori is determined, strong willed, and brave woman. She pushes herself to surpass her limits. Kahhori also exhibits a strong sense of justice and community, refusing to let her people suffer at the hands of invaders. Her passion for justice inspires others around her to take up to fight against injustices.

Powers
After Kahhori was shot by the Conquistadores and fell to the Forbidden Lake, she was sent to the Sky World by the Tesseract (Space Stone), which granted her superhuman/cosmic powers like Captain Marvel and Scarlet Witch. She has displayed the following powers:
- Energy Manipulation: Kahhori's altered physiology has endowed her with the ability to naturally harness all forms of energy and to utilize in battle.
- Energy Projection: Kahhori is able to project bursts of energy from her hands as a form of ranged combat.
- Force Field: Kahhori can create a durable shield and a barrier of psionic energy to protect herself and others or deflect attacks.
- Telekinesis: Kahhori has the power to move, levitate, and even immobilize objects and people without touching them.
- Teleportation: With her connection to the Sky World, Kahhori can open portals to other dimensions. On a lesser level, she can make portals to teleport people to different locations in the same universe.
- Levitation: Kahhori is able to use this power to move through the air and simulate flight.
- Superhuman Speed: Kahhori can move at extremely high, even supersonic speeds. She can move so fast that she looks like a blue blur.
- Superhuman Agility: Kahhori's speed extends to her agility, as she is far more flexible and had greater balance than a normal human.
- Superhuman Reflexes: Kahhori's speed extends to her reflexes, allowing her to react to danger and events much faster than a normal human. Her reflexes are so fast that they even allow her to catch bullets in mid-air, although she prefers to use force-fields in this situation.
- Superhuman Strength: Kahhori possesses superhuman strength, as she could lift Captain Carter above her head and send her flying through the air like.
- Superhuman Durability: Kahhori's skin, bones, and tissue are far denser and resistant to damage when compared to an ordinary human.
- Immortality: Kahhori has stopped aging when gained her powers and has proven immune to some forms of human death.
- Healing Factor: Kahhori possesses a superhuman healing factor that allows her body to regenerate damaged bodily tissue with far greater speed and efficiency than an ordinary human.

- Kahhori is the first MCU original character, not having appeared in the comics, who debuts in What If...?. The second is Byrdie who debuts in season 3.
- Kahhori was one of the characters cited by What If...? head writer and executive producer A.C. Bradley as one of the heroes in the second season that was written to give her, and others hope during the COVID-19 pandemic and rising political tensions due to the George Floyd protests and the then upcoming 2020 United States presidential election.[2][3]
