The Eurydelma is a fictional species of tarantula from the Magic Kingdom version of Jungle Cruise.
History
Background
Eurydelma is a hostile species of tarantula. Around 1938, one of these species was transported for Japanese entomologist Kon Chunosuke handled by the Jungle Navigation Company. It was stored in the Amazon River Base when the doctor went missing throughout the Rivers of Adventure.
Appearances
Jungle Cruise
The Eurydelma is an audio-animatronic tarantula that is featured in the queue in the Magic Kingdom version of Jungle Cruise. Aside from being a prop, cast members are able to control the tarantula via remote control to interact with guests while they wait in line to ride the attraction.
Jingle Cruise
The tarantula reprises its role in the seasonal overlay as it did in the original incarnation, except that it is seen wearing a Santa hat. Like in the original incarnation, cast members are able to control the tarantula using remote control to interact with guests while they wait in line to ride the attraction.
Temple Traders Boutique
A cage for the tarantula appears within the Disneyland Paris store, albeit with no individual arachnid inside it.
Trivia
- The name Eurydelma is derived from the order Eurydema, a species of shield bugs in the family Pentatomidae.
- In the 2021 film adaptation of Jungle Cruise, there is a tarantula in the Hotel de Fereira scene where it is seen fighting against a scorpion. However, it is unknown what exact species of tarantula it is in the film, as it is completely unrelated to the Eurydelma from the Jungle Cruise attraction.
