As Joe happily reacts to Connie playing her instrument, the other students laugh at her while Joe tells the class about his memory about what his father did which Connie and the other class listen to Joe's story about how he was born to play only for Principal Arroyo to interrupt class where she promotes Joe on getting a full-time job as a music teacher.
Later, Connie visits Joe who is inside his apartment who explains to Joe that she quit music class, showing that she's not uncomfortable with school. She then listens to 22 controlling the real Joe of a quote what George Orwell said, giving Connie an advise that the band class's core curriculum stifles dissent, which Connie remembers saying this during third grade, which 22 controlling the real Joe tries to help Connie's frustration, much to the soul version of Joe controlling Mr. Mittens feeling worry. While talking with Joe who is controlled by 22, Connie discusses that she was practicing with her trombone from music class to help her improve her skills in playing jazz music which Joe observes Connie's resilience which she decides to stick with this which Joe agrees just as Connie leaves Joe's apartment to continue practicing. Trivia
- Connie was Cora Champommier's first voice-acting role.
- In the deleted scene "Home Lessons" included in the Blu-ray and digital releases of Soul, the sequence after Joe talks with Connie who leaves his apartment was a scene where Joe discusses with Natalia, an elderly woman who was inspired by Mike Jones' neighbor in New York. Despite being modeled, Natalia was cut from the final version of the film as it was found out that Connie was a better bridge to the idea.
