Shocked by Eve's true nature, Reiji runs away.

Synopsis

At the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police Department, after seeing all of his predictions have come true, the Superintendent realizes Zen really comes from the future. Zen asks the Superintendent to borrow his soldiers.

Reiji Shinonome asks Eve why she didn't tell him she was an A.I., and she asks if he would have still saved her if he knew. Reiji runs off in the rain and Eve starts crying. Reiji runs while thinking about Eve until Wanya asks him where he is going. Eve realizes she probably won't return to Reiji's room again, and is later surrounded by the police's special forces. Reiji returns to his room to find the goldfish in the floor, and the next day he realizes Eve hasn't returned. As the days pass, summer starts and Wanya remembers Eve wanted to see the sky after the rain stopped. Reiji asks Wanya to forget about Eve, and Wanya reveals it already knew she was an A.I., surprising Reiji. Wanya says he wants to save Eve, making Reiji realize his mistake about abandoning Eve, and digivolves to DarkTyrannomon. Kuwagamon then call them. At the Metropolitan Police Department's special detention, Zen reveals himself to Eve. He reveals Magus self-destructed along with his time machine after suspecting Zen's plan, that he is the one who sent the Devidramon after her, and because it was beaten so much he took a long time to locate her. He tries to combine Eve's fragmented time machine with the part he stole, but after realizing it is a fake, Zen suspects the real one is with Reiji and orders an officer to dispose of Eve.

Kuwagamon tells Reiji Eve didn't try to resist and it did nothing because of her orders, and the boy reprimands it for not following its heart, telling it is not a weapon and he knows it wanted to save her. Kuwagamon then guides Reiji and Wanya to her location through the Network, and reveals Eve left her time machine with it before being taken away. Kuwagamon is attacked by Megadramon, who Kuwagamon feels has digivolved from the Devidramon they fought before. Zen, with Andromon and MetalMamemon reveals himself to the trio. Zen claims Reiji wouldn't be able to understand his explanations, so instead starts to stream information about the future into his brain.

The invention of the time machine resulted in people changing the past for self-interest and causing the world to distort and split into many branches, most of which led to humanity's destruction. Only one branch survived, a world where nuclear-polluted rain falls endlessly, only 0.1% of humanity remains, and only seven countries still exist. Because the time machine was too much for humans to handle, the world government decided to start Project Knowledge Apple, the creation of A.I.s who would handle the remaining time machines and make decisions about humanity's past and future. They had limiters installed to their thought processes which preventing them from making decisions disadvantageous to humanity. As the A.I.s solved the many paradoxes caused by time travel, humanity gained more time before extinction, and created Digimon, who became alternatives to nuclear weapons. The Digimon were entrusted to the A.I.s, who started to fight bloodless conflicts in humanity's stead. Seeing humanity had stopped worrying about their fate, and decided to start wars despite impending extinction, Zen came to the conclusion humanity had no future. He started looking for a future where humanity avoided extinction, being barred of many choices by his limiter, and eventually overcame the it, believing himself to be the only A.I. to have woken up. Zen sent a Digi-Egg 300 years into the past, and taking on a human-like body, he traveled to the past under the pretense of retrieving the Digi-Egg while carrying other four Digi-Eggs, easily tricking the A.I.s who couldn't suspect of one of their own. Zen planned to combine the five Digimon into Machinedramon and rule over humanity with its power, preventing it from causing its own destruction to ensure its longest possible existence. However, Zen's time machine was destroyed on his arrival due to the strain of how far he traveled and how much data he stored. The Digi-Egg he sent ahead also arrived at the wrong coordinates, which resulted in Reiji meeting Wanya first.

Now the missing pieces of Zen's plan—Wanya, MetalGreymon's data inside Kuwagamon, and the time machine—are all reunited. He request Reiji's help, who rejects. Kuwagamon, nearly succumbing to its injuries, transfers its data to Wanya, who digivolves to MetalTyrannomon. Zen's Digimon attack Reiji and MetalTyrannomon, and the duo knocks down Andromon. Reiji declares they are going to save Eve.

  • In the English version, the sentence "The frozen data of Kuwagamon... preserved of MetalGreymon" has the two Digimon's names swapped. MetalGreymon is the frozen Digimon preserved inside of Kuwagamon.
