Voidwound

"Long ago, witches of the Sharval Wilds sealed away demons of darkness. Now, the pieces of their damaged cage rain down, and their centuries-old machinations threaten Westmarch as well as the lands beyond."

- group description(src)

The Voidwound are a quintet of demons, closely associated with the Black Abyss.

Lore

"They emerged from darkness in five corners of the land. The sun waited behind the moon and animals hushed as the nights grew ever longer."

The Voidwound are demons of darkness. They seek new darkness, and to bring their darkness to new places.[1]

History

Ancient History

The Voidwound emerged in their current forms from the Black Abyss. All demons reform from the Abyss in time, oftimes in new forms. The demons who would become the Voidwound however, spent "primordial ages" inside the Abyss before emerging, and brought the caul of their rebirth with them.[1]

The Voidwound emerged in Sanctuary not long after their rebirth from the Abyss. Each of the five demons emerged in a different corner of the land (the Sharval Wilds, or perhaps further beyond), on the day of an eclipse. Animals fell silent, and the nights grew longer. The Nightgrant observed them and gave them the name "Voidwound," and learnt what they could of these demons.[1]

The Voidwound approached the Great Tree in Sharval, where they met with at least two of the Witch Circles; the Nightgrant and Untameable Wilds. The Voidwound made their offer to the Nightgrant dark blessings to shape Sanctuary to their liking, in return for sacrifices. The Voidwound did not mention peace, only one generation of trade between themselves and these mortals. The two exceptions were Apothrus (who remained silent} and Catarag, who alone refused to deal with the Witches. He instead roared of its Dhasocth Iyadur: a time without light.[1]

The possibility of a pact was rendered impossible. Untamable Wilds drove away the Nightgrant, and lured Catarag into their glade. They were able to seal Catarag, but at the cost of seven lives. To deal with the remaining Voidwound, the Untamable Wilds circle enacted a desparate plan. They tricked the Voidwound into possessing them, and held them at bay long enough to travel to the Forgotten Sea. The Voidwound were sealed in the Voidwound Cage, which was sunk beneath the waves. By the time the ordeal was over, the Untamable Wilds circle had been reduced to only ten members. Nevertheless, the circle remained in vigil over the Voidwound's prison.[1]

Recent History

Centuries later,[2]—around 1272, the Cult of Terror attacked the Voidwound Cage in order to free its prisoners. They were stymied by Nisza — the current wardkeeper of the Untameable Wilds, but their cage was damaged, causing an explosion that scattered bits of the cage far and wide. This caused the Voidwound to awake. Dymdrail sent the Many to hunt her, but she received help in the form of the Shard-seeker, Rayek and Commander Kaya.

FreeVoid

With their prison damaged, the Voidwound were able to break free, just as Nisza returned with help.[3]

They were later defeated by the Shard-seeker and sealed in the Helliquary.

Gameplay

The Voidwound are Helliquary bosses in Diablo Immortal, introduced as part of the Terror's Tide update. The Voidwound Helliquary becomes unlocked by completing the prologue quest "The Chainbreakers", which is available at character level 60.[2]
