Objectives
- Talk with Ayuzhan (The old man is a victim after all. He introduced himself as Ayuzhan of Caldeum, the sorcerer who built this place. He may have the answers I seek.)
- Speak with Ayuzhan
- Place Inert Construct
- Wait for Ayuzhan
- Speak with Ayuzhan (Ayuzhan repaired the inert construct for my use. He promises it will be a boon against the possible dangers ahead. I should speak to the sorcerer once more in the Gatehall.)
- Find the Library (Ayuzhan asked me to find his colleague, Zoltun Kulle. Ayuzhan says we can find him in the Library, but I have my doubts.)
- Speak with Ayuzhan
- Enter the Library
- Operate the Disabling Switch
- Find Zoltun's Study
- Search for Evidence
- Speak with Ayuzhan
- Slay the constructs
Transcript
- Ayuzhan: (pants) What...What happened? Who are you? What are you doing in the Gatehall?
- Ayuzhan: What am I doing here?
- Class: I believe you were possessed by a demon.
- Ayuzhan: A demon?
- Ayuzhan: ...Yes. Yes, I understand. It metastasized faster than I expected. We must...(winces)
- Ayushan: (groans) Stiff joints. Forgive me - I need a moment.
- Ayuzhan: I am Ayushan of Caldeum, mage of the Yshari. And the demon you spoke of...it is called Malphas. It has infested this place, taken it for its own. But it can be removed.
- Class: The demon is possessing villagers in Gea Kul. I came here to stop it.
- Ayuzhan: (sighs) I see.
- Ayuzhan: This demon is a parasite. It will inhabit whatever it can, simply for the joy of playing the puppeteer.
- Ayuzhan: Last I saw it, it was little more than a red mist. If it is able to possess people on the surface...we must move quickly.
- Ayuzhan: I see you have a construct strapped to your waist. Hand it to me - it is not beyond repair.
- Ayuzhan: This is a Seneschal, designed to protect its charge. All it requires is a governing stone.
- Class: I am ready.
- Ayuzhan: There we are. Now, follow me. I am not the only one who may be in danger.
- Ayuzhan: I built this place. But not alone. I worked alongside another mage; Zoltun Kulle, of the Ennead clan.
- Class
- Response 1: The Zoltun Kulle?
- Response 2: Zoltun Kulle? Who is that?
- Ayuzhan
- Response 1: So you've heard of him. He'll be pleased. The man always believed he'd be famous.
- Response 2: A mage of the highest order. And an incorrigible egotist. He'll be disappointed you've never heard of him.
- Ayuzhan: Come. If he is not in his study, he will at least have left word there.
- Ayuzhan: Come on then!
- Ayuzhan: Zoltun insisted on security...security that Malphas has felicitously taken advantage of.
- Class: What do you need me to do?
- Ayuzhan: This hall is rigged with traps. They can be timed and avoided, but I doubt I would make it. Better if you throw the switch at the end of the hall, and I'll catch up.
- Ayuzhan: (pants) Well done.
- Class: Are you all right?
- Ayuzhan: I'll be better...once we find Zoltun.
- Ayuzhan: The study is this way...assuming it's still there.
- Ayuzhan: We never built constructs to kill! This is the demon's work.
- Ayuzhan:
- You are trained in the way of the Sightless Eye. (if the player is a Rogue)
- You are a student of the Zann Esu. Or trained in their way. (if the player is a Sorcerer)
- Class: Yes.
- Ayuzhan:
- Ayuzhan: There! That's the study...
- Ayuzhan: Zoltun! Damn you Zoltun Kulle, answer me!
- Ayuzhan: He is not here.
- Ayuzhan: Men of his pride don't vanish without a trace. There must be something...
- Sealed Letter: My dearest friend. The Loom is dead. You will find the tunnels collapsed, the runes scoured. To rebuild it without me would take a lifetime. I hope you abandon this dream, as I have. And if not, I hope you live well - Zoltun
- Class: Zoltun Kulle wrote this. He is long gone.
- Ayuzhan: "Dearest friend..." Ha!
- Ayuzhan: We had quite the row last I remember...but to amount our collaborations to friendship? It's just like him.
- Ayuzhan: He writes as though he destroyed the Loom on the way out. Yet I can feel its humming under our feet.
- Ayuzhan: Wait. Who is that?
- Ayuzhan: Me. That is me. I am an old man. How many years have I spent down here?
- Malphas: A young mage, fast asleep. Alone. Cracks in the walls of his mind.
- Malphas: I took him. I built his dream anew.
- Ayuzhan: It made me repair the Loom. All these years. It - (gasps)
- Ayuzhan: (screams)
- Ayuzhan: (pants) I could do with a strong tea...but I'm still here. I refuse to be a demon's puppet again.
- Ayuzhan: Give me a moment. I will meet you in the gatehall.
Optional
- Class: What is this place?
- Ayuzhan: This...is where we made a miracle; an alchemical engine. The greatest in all the world. We call it the Loom. It is housed leagues beneath our feet, and yet it powers all you see around you.
- Class: This "construct" - is it alive?
- Ayuzhan: Ha! To make life from metal and lightning - that would be the pinnacle of creation. No. It is animated by the elemental force within it, and it obeys the runes engraved into it. But it is not alive.
