- For the magic prefix, see Sapphire.
Sapphires are blue gems, a subtype of socketable items. Like other gems, they come in varying quality levels and grant bonuses to specific stats. Gems including Sapphires were introduced in Diablo II and appear in subsequent games with the exception of Diablo III.
Diablo II
Like other Diablo II gems, Sapphire powers are connected to their color, blue, which signifies the Elemental power of Cold, as well as magic and mana. In Weapons and Shields a Sapphire adds bonuses related to cold, and in helms and body armor it increases mana. Crafted Items can be made with Sapphire, and Hit Power Items have many bonuses that trigger when the wearer is hit.
Weapons: Adds Cold Damage
Shields: Adds Resistance to Cold
Helms and Body Armor: Adds to Maximum Mana
Note: The Freeze durations are cumulative.
Diablo III
Sapphires are the only gemstone type from Diablo II not to return for Diablo III. Skulls also did not return.
Diablo Immortal
Sapphire is one of the Normal Gems in Diablo Immortal and increases Armor Penetration.
Trivia
- Sapphires are often symbolic of faith, and in Christian tradition its sky blue hue symbolizes status as a stone of the heavens connected to the cherubim. This angelic link is reflected in game, where Sapphires give bonus to magical power, i.e. Mana.
