Possessor

"Adrift... once more. Yet these bodies crumble under the faintest pressure."

- The Possessor to its latest victim(src)

The Possessor was a spirit trapped in a red, glowing gem, which was in the possession of the Cult of Terror. It enthralls anyone who comes in contact with its gem in order to possess them. If the host bodies can't bear the strain, it drains them of life.[1]

Biography

Possessor's Gem

The Possessor's gem was originally with the Cult of Terror (or at least a sect of it). They offered sacrifices to it, both in blood and potential hosts. At a point, it came in contact with a particularly strong host, but they were able to resist it. The Possessor then sent different apparitions in the form of Terror Cultists to wear them down, but all its apparitions were defeated. At the end, the potential host was able to escape the vision, and broke the gem.[1]

In-game

The Possessor appears in Diablo Immortal. It is the boss of the side quest Good Host. The Possessor is not a single enemy, but a total of twelve Deadwrights, with each set stronger than the former. They appear in the order; 1, 2, 1, 3, 1, 3, 1; with the last Deadwright being a Unique Monster. The first eleven enemies are normal monsters, but still bear monster traits (Immune to Control, and 2 random traits each). The final Possessor has a unique AoE vitality drain ability.
