Othva

Othva is a former member of the Taan Mage Clan, who was exiled for being involved in "dangerous practices that put the rest of the clan at risk".

Biography

In his youth, Othva attended the Taan Star Observatory to learn the ways of divination. There he befriended Karshun, who was a prodigy in his year. In their fifth year,^[1] in order peer clearly through the Astral Realm, they built an artifact named the Astral Bloom.^[2]

Unfortunately, a lot of energy was needed to power the device. Othva later discovered that sufficient souls bound to the device would be enough to power it, and proceeded to forcefully bind the souls of his colleagues. Karshun was aghast by this act, and the two came to blows over it. When the deed was discovered, the two were banished from the Taan and their device locked in a vault.^[2]

Years later, Othva became affiliated with the Cult of Terror. He attacked the west repository of the Observatory, where the Astral Bloom was stored.^[3] His goal was to retrieve the calyx of the artifact. The Taan pursued him to Aranoch, where they caught up to him sacrificing people and binding their souls to the calyx. He injured the mages that opposed them, and slew the High Arcanist. In the battle a small piece of the calyx broke off, unknown to him.^[2]

With the help of the cult, Othva tried to harvest a lot of power to the calyx. To do this, he attacked locations that coincided with the intersections of leylines in order to harvest extra power as he bound souls to the calyx. When the cult attacked Tembury, they were rebuffed by Karshun, who was traveling by at the time. He attacked the town again, and this time led the cultists himself. Karshun arrived with the Shard-seeker, but they failed to save the town, nor stop Othva from escaping with the calyx.^[2]

In-game

Othva is the boss of the elite quest; "The Astral Bloom". He is fought in the vault where the Astral Bloom was stored within the Taan Star Observatory. He attacks with the following;

Blast: Othva shoots a trio of magic missiles.
- From ≈33% life, Othva shoots 7 magic missiles in an nova.
Torrent: Othva points his open left palm to the player and fires 3 honing torrents of arcane bolts at the player.
Summon Minion: Othva summons Terror cultists to aid himself.
Meteor: Othva raises his right hand up, and summons a meteor showers on the player's location.
Teleport: Othva teleports to a different location after casting meteor
Vortex: Othva levitates his source in front of himself, and summons a black hole that drags the player in to its center where they are Immobilized and damaged. The black hole is preceded by a portal. Destroying the portal cancels the skill.
- From ≈50% life, Othva summons 3 mobile black holes.
- From ≈33% life, Othva teleports to the Astral Bloom and summons a larger and longer lasting black hole.
