Jung Chaeyeon (Hangul:정채연) is a South Korean actress and singer under BH Entertainment. She is a member of the girl group DIA and a former member of the project girl group of I.O.I. She made her idol debut on September 14, 2015, as a member of DIA, with the release of their first studio album Do It Amazing.
Career
Early Life
Chaeyeon was born on December 1, 1997 in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province, South Korea. She attended SOPA from 2013 to 2016 with member Ahn Eun-jin.
Debut with DIA
On June 29, 2015 it was announced that MBK. Teaser images for Yebin, Chaeyeon and Jenny were revealed . Chaeyeon then debuted with DIA officially with their first studio album Do It Amazing and the Title Track Somehow (왠지).[1]
Produce 101 and I.O.I
On Dec 2015 it was announced that Chaeyeon would be temporarily withdrawing from promotions with DIA to compete in the Mnet survival show Produce 101 with group-mate Cathy. She had auditioned for the group a week before debuting. Overall Chaeyeon finished 7th in Produce 101 with 215,338 votes and ended up debuting in I.O.I along with 10 other members. She debuted with them in their debut mini album Chrysalis. MBK Soon announced after the release that Chaeyeon would return to promotions in June 2016 when I.O>I disbanded.
Chaeyeon would make her acting debut in the tvN show "Drinking Solo" with SHINee's Onew. Chaeyeon played the role of herself as a student preparing for civil service examination. It premiered mid August 2016.[2]
Chaeyeon returned to promotions with project group I.O.I on Oct 16, 2017 in their second mini album Miss Me? with the lead title track Very Very Very. On Music Bank schedules collided and Chaeyeon performed twice, once with I.O.I for Very Very Very and second for DIA for Mr. Potter.
I.O.I soon disbanded later with their last release Downpour. Chaeyeon and the other members then returned to their respective groups and activities later.
Solo Activities
In 2017 Chaeyeon starred in the show Reunited Worlds as the younger version of Lee Yeonhee's character. Chaeyeon later starred in another science fiction drama playing as an android robot. Chaeyeon later played in many other films and shows and became a very known South Korean actress.
It was announced that DIA would split up into sub-units for the upcoming digital singles Miracle DIAID Ⅰ and Miracle DIAID Ⅱ. The first sub-unit was BCHCS consisting of Yebin, Chaeyeon, Huihyeon, Eunice and Somyi. They debuted in their first song together You Are the Moon and Earth. Later they released their own special songs in the Love Generation album.
