Gubamon is one of the three Pure-breed Vampires who leads Hihiryushukaka's faction.

Appearance

Gubamon appears like a withered tree of an old man with an abundant beard[3] and large, almost bulging eyes.[4]

Personality

Gubamon has an eccentric personality and appearance, and is largely indifferent to the matters of the faction as long as he can dedicate his time and effort to his hobby.[3] He relishes in resurrecting heroes in wooden-doll-like states, and finds it amusing how they yelp with hollow eyes as they obey his commands.[5]

As long as his subordinates does not interfere with his hobby,[3] he is completely indifferent to their activities.[6] Because of this, his subordinates has the highest survival rate in Hihiryushukaka's faction. His poor and sloppy management of his subordinates, is one of the reasons why Vandalieu was able to survive.[3]

Gubamon is so passionate about his hobby that he may spare a subordinate who's failed an important mission, if said subordinate obtains a bone fragment of a hero.[6]

Summary

Gubamon was originally a human who worshipped Vida, but was turned into a Pure-breed Vampire by the Vampires' True Ancestor. He is one of the Pure-breed Vampires who changed sides and began worshipping one of the remnants of the Demon King's army, Hihiryushukaka, the Evil God of Joyful Life, after Vida was defeated in the war between her and Alda a hundred thousand years ago.[?]

Sometime during his life, he grew a penchant to collecting heroes as undead puppets, which would eventually grow into an obsessive hobby.[7]

After the fall of Talosheim 200 years ago, he stole the corpses of Jeena and Zandia,[7] but his subordinates failed in retrieving Borkus' corpse, since they encountered Mikhail.[6] After the invasion of Sauron Duchy, Gubamon also abducted the corpse of George Bearheart alongside the corpses of two other well-known knights, which he combined into a patchwork zombie.[5]

Gubamon is the one who turned Valen into a Subordinate Vampire, and used him as a convenient spy who could move around during the day. When some subordinates tried to warn him of Valen's relationship with Darcia, he killed them with his bare hands without listening to them, since he got annoyed that they were interfering with his hobby. Gubamon never noticed before Valen and Darcia actually eloped.[3]

As the cooperative system in Hihiryushukaka's faction began to crumble.[?]

Powers and Abilities

With oath to the Evil God, Gubamon became a true monster and lost his jobs.[?] Thanks to the divine protection of Hihiryushukaka, he is able to tame even Undead… or at least create Undead and turn them into servants.[7]

His hobby is collecting heroes as corpse puppets. He relishes in resurrecting them in wooden-doll-like states, which largely damages the corpse's original personality and intelligence. According to him, it's also important to preserve the heroes' special characteristics. Therefore "the correct practice is to gather materials of the same type, or decide on a principle material and then add other materials that supplement it."[5]

The world of you creatures who do not even live more than a few hundred years is like a fleeting dream. Your nations are created and destroyed numerous times during the time it takes me to admire my collection; they are but sandcastles at the shore, are they not?

— Gubamon to a captured Iris Bearheart

He was a master of space-attribute magic and possessed the Demon Eyes of Destruction, which directly attacked those in his line of sight. In addition, he possessed the Demon King’s carapace, which granted him the greatest defense among the three Pure-breed Vampires when activated.[?]

He was not weak by any means, but all of the actions he chose to take ended up tightening a noose around his own neck, and he was defeated by Vandalieu. However, he is one of the few individuals who successfully dealt damage to Vandalieu. He didn’t cause as much damage as Bugogan, who cut through over half of Vandalieu’s torso in the first volume, but it can be said that he put up more of a fight than Kanata, who could not even cause Vandalieu a single scratch.[?]
