Blueprints are an important and somewhat unique resource as they have a singular purpose of combing weapons together using a Forge (see this page for specifics on weapon combination). Nothing else uses or requires it.

The amount of blueprints required to combine weapons together varies based on the weapons used, but often is between 3-4.
