Synopsis for "Issue Eight: Pioneers"

The disturbances in the Speed Force create catastrophic events around the world. Barry Allen rallies the Flash Family and Circuit Breaker to respond whilst personally trying to deal with three crises at once. However, their effectiveness is reduced as their own powers are glitching. Meanwhile, Iris West goes on a pro-superhero podcast to push back against the propaganda from the Bureau of Sovereignty labelling heroes a menace.

The Bureau raids Terrifictech, making off with many of their artifacts and, more importantly, the data they gathered suggesting that speedsters are responsible for the disruptions. Hartley Rathaway runs to the West house looking for Wally but Jai tells him that Wally is away, the boy doesn't seem worried and claims his father is with the Titans. When Hartley goes inside he meets Inspector Pilgrim, who was teaching Jai to create energy constructs. Pilgrim seems awestruck to meet Rathaway and tells him that Amanda Waller isn't the real problem: although he hints that in the normal timeline she will launch all-out war on the superheroes soon; the universe is set to catastrophiclly implode in a matter of days anyway.

Barry gets a call from Irey, who he tasked to track down Wally. Irey tells him, seemingly unconcerned, that she can't find Wally but warns him that he keeps making the same paths between the locations of the crises, so someone would easily be able to kidnap him. Barry responds to another crisis and finds a temporal rift with the Linear Bureau and a Widow responding. They attempt to capture him but are driven away by the Folded Man, Grodd and the Mirror Master, who overpower and torture Barry. A shadowy figure forces Eobard Thawne's consciousness into Barry's mind.

Amanda Waller and the Bureau of Sovreignty break into the studio where Iris is broadcasting and shut it down, arresting the host on charges of distributing "terrorist propaganda". Iris tells Waller that she is pathetic, and that for all her supposed desire to protect people from metahumans, the real reason she hates superheroes is that she can't control them. With barely concealed rage, Waller takes over the broadcast and announces that they have discovered speedsters using their powers are causing reality to break down. She demands they all stop immediately or face the consequences.

In the Gallery of Moments, Barry's statue wears the "Crown of Thawnes", unnoticed by Wally and the Resident.
