Synopsis for "Metamorphosis, Part 2: Revolution Number 9"

On Apokolips, slaves labor on Darkseid's projects, urged onward past the point of exhaustion by merciless whip-wielding overseers. One of the slaves, Karn, takes down his overseer and flees to the surface with two of his fellows.

On Earth, Anarky ruminates on his new Objectivist worldview while using an MRI-like machine to fuse the hemispheres of his brain, granting him conscious access to the full power of his mind. Outside the Anarco building, Legs and his homeless friends wait for the jobs Anarky promised them in the previous issue. Yap the dog comes out, pulling a wagon full of envelopes addressed to each of them, containing money and instructions.

On Apokolips, Darkseid's soldiers corner the escapees, but are knocked down when Anarky and Blasfemy arrive via boom tube. Anarky apologizes to the soldiers, but they attack anyway, so he unleashes Blasfemy on them. An image of Darkseid appears, killing the soldiers for their failure and ordering the escapees to return underground to be tortured to death. Anarky challenges Darkseid's tyranny and shows the god the teleportation device he created to reach Apokolips, which intrigues Darkseid enough to let him meet with a corporeal avatar.

Anarky asks Darkseid why he does evil. The god agrees with all of Anarky's proposed motives (hunger for power, disgust for all life, love of pain, and need to humiliate others to assert his own value), and tells him that good and evil are relative. Darkseid says he should crush Anarky as he crushes the revolutionaries who occasionally rise up against his rule, though he finds the young hero intriguing. Anarky decides this would be a good opportunity to activate his boom tube and leave, but Darkseid blasts him as he tries to. Anarky takes shelter behind Blasfemy, and the god's attacks release the demon from his hypnosis.

Blasfemy attacks Darkseid, demanding that the god worship him, but Darkseid is easily able to kill him while foiling Anarky's continued efforts to escape. As Anarky defiantly awaits his death while inwardly cursing his own hubris, Darkseid decides to spare him, revealing that the escapees have been promoted to overseers for their resourcefulness, and they are at least as vicious to their slaves as the old overseer was to them.

Anarky returns to Earth to find the contraption his construction crew was building atop the Anarco building is now complete. He inserts a crystal which absorbed some of Darkseid's power into it and prepares for the next phase of his plan.
