UrLii the Storyteller was the Mystic counterpart to skekLi the Satirist.
Biography
Dissatisfied with urSu's policy of non-interference in the affairs of other races, urLii left the Valley of the urRu and moved to the Caves of Grot, where he became the keeper of the Tomb of Relics. Rumors of his presence there were attested since at least the early Age of Division, with Thriya writing of a childling telling her of a "four-armed creature" moving about the Tomb.[1] An extremely private individual, very few knew of his presence in the Tomb,[2] with most Grottans believing that the relics accumulated in the Tomb had been placed there by Aughra or a Gelfling adventurer.[1]
During the late Age of Division, he befriended Maudra Argot and taught her the art of healing. Near the end of the Arathim Wars, he saved Ordon and Fara from drowning in one of the caves' underground lakes.[3] When Ordon revealed that his mission to the caves was to obtain the Dual Glaive, urLii refused to disclose its location, deeming it "merely a thing of iron and wood, without value in and of itself". He only relented when Fara offered him her talisman, and took them to the Tomb, where he revealed that the Glaive was located in a chamber too narrow for him to enter. He warned Ordon of the dangers present in the chamber, then subsequently goaded Fara into following him.[2]
Personality and traits
Typical of an urRu, urLii primarily spoke through riddles, though he preferred to do so referring to himself in the third person singular.[2]
He was also unusually avaricious, only accepting to help others when offered something in return, and confessed to enjoying teasing uptight individuals like Ordon.[2]
He had spent so much time in Grot that, by the time of the Arathim Wars, his coat was covered in Glow Moss.[2]
UrLii was apparently supportive of urGoh's quest for immediate urRu-Skeksis unity, allowing him to store the Dual Glaive in the Tomb of Relics.
Other Continuities
UrLii was first established in Song of the Dark Crystal, where he lived amongst Grottan Gelfling protecting the Tomb of Relics.[4] When Naia, Kylan, Kyrchk and Amri arrived at the tomb, he helped them find Gyr's firca. Naia was extremely annoyed by urLii, aphorizing that he only spoke in riddles and therefore was useless.[5]
