
Zantegeba ("He with Big Paws") is a creature from the Bambara people's folklore from Mali.
Description
It is described as a demonic, baboon-like creature and it is known to rape women. The story of this creature became an annual festival. One person dresses up as Zantegeba using sticks for forearms to walk on, then he chases women in the crowds who flee from him.
Explanation
It's possible that the Zantegeba is actually a late surviving dinopithecus, a species of baboon that grow to be the size of a horse. According to science, this species went extinct 2 million years ago because of competition with Homo Habilis.
