Changshe (长蛇 chang she, lit. "long snake") is a giant snake-like creature from the ancient bestiaries of China.
Description
According to the bestiary, it was 800 feet long and had bristles between its scales. It was believed to live in the Greater Unity Mountain in ancient China. The creature's name literally translates into "long snake".

According to one description online, the sound the creature made was similar to the sound a watchman's clapper makes.
Explanation
Lots of legends depict giant snake like creatures, it is possible that in the past, there existed giant snake species which became the source of such legends, the most famous giant snake species - that we know of - being the Titanoboa.
Species similar to the extinct Titanoboa could be the source of all the legendary giant snakes of the world, including Changshe.
